The book is also a reactionary work , written in times of spiritual crisis. Falls into a dichotomous portrayal of good old paganism and destructive Christianity, which I find pretty uninteresting.

I feel like it’s one of those occultist cliches that misunderstand hermetic philosophy and medieval magic and occultism. In a very modern way … very reactionary too. I sense that they were a bit traumatized by Christianity. It’s not reflective of deep metaphysical realities , but promethean sentimentalism.

Russian symbolists have a peculiar theme where they are a bit obsessed with shifting to the other side .I think they romanticize him a bit because in both the Fury angel and The death of the Gods , the protagonist is asked to denounce Christ and after he does, he is told that to serve God he must serve Satan .

If indeed this is the love, that exists in reality and is experienced by millions throughout the centuries, I want nothing to do with it. It’s mere lustful passion disguised that would drive one to commit such madness, not love that nurtures and is the foundation of all that exists

I can’t help but feel quite uncomfortable at the idea of a love that torments and shatters the hearts of the protagonists so rapidly, making them experience emotions that compels them to act heroically, throw themselves at the feet of their tormentors, kill and die for them. This drunk infatuation and obsession never fails to exhaust me , just by reading it.
