after a 100 page or so, the narration argues that wealthy people are somehow less shady than politicians and diplomats. I really hope the novel gets a bit nuanced on this topic.

Halfway through and it is really mid. Not spectacularly bad, but really far from good. Nothing suprising or original here. I will get through this book, but I shouldn't, it is not worth it.

Why do we have point of view chapters, if the narration is all over the place? This will be really bad...

This was cleatly written in the 80s with "that barely suppressed male animal"... what the heck

The prose is so strange. It seems that the author fell headfirst into a dictionary. Or she tries to copy 19th-century theater comedies with the exaggerated plans and dialogues. Sometimes it works, but more often it doesn't land.

After 100 pages it is clear that Kova wrote a cookie-cutter romantasy. Which means the characters are boring and one-dimensional, the plot is predictable and tropey, and the writing is repetitive. At least it is readable, which is still better than 60% of the romantasy genre.

I am not sure how playing poker helps equality, but sure... still, I have a nagging feeling that I get to read the same story chapter by chapter

so far meredith is a really convincing teenager. but one thing i really like in this novel is the long chapters. they end when the emotional impact is finished, not at manufactured twists.

The spookiest twist in this book so far that the protagonist has to give a lecture on a topic he is not an expert in. I'm not sure what this book is about anymore.

idk. this is very girls like this, boys like this. not great. and the paranoia, the prejudice of the FMC... the narrative voice is weirdly melodramatic from their first meeting

i know this will transform into twilight for adults, but the idea, that the academic world is full of vampires, witches and daemons who essentially control the future of the world, is really great.
and basically you cannot get tenure without having supernatural abilities.

i just dont understand. why would Dracula want to kidnap scholars?
