Some big words, some things I like some things I don’t… still a good listen so far

Not what I expected… audioed this during naptimes. It was more of a “you can do it” kind of book… each chapter a different type of art and creativity and how to fold it into life 🤷‍♀️

Parents also must guard against viewing the materials in this book as "behavior modification" or "cognitive therapy techniques." They are biblically-derived solutions to common problems of living and are of limited value apart from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit in your life and the life of your child.

Question: What is the first rule for teaching a parakeet how to talk?
Answer: You must have a larger vocabulary than the parakeet.

Question: What is the first rule for disciplining children?
Answer: You must have more discipline than the child.

Literally just keeping this book with me to read a sentence here and there throughout the day…

You must quickly and prayerfully get your heart in such a state that personal desires are temporarily set aside. You must be willing to lay aside your personal rights and forgive your child's offenses.

Honesty should be subtitled “prevention and cure of anger in parents hearts that they didn’t know was there”

Oh my- the section on parents provoking children - worth the book! I also thought the first chapter was put together so well and am thankful for the help it already has been!

At the end of the day, when you have tucked the last little one into bed and fallen exhausted into your own, wondering if you really have what it takes to be a mother to these precious children, remember that days are already written by our heavenly Father. Say with the psalmist”This is theLoRDs doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" and trust your life, home, and children to the care of him who does all things well.

Each letter is written by a different woman, so I’m going to have a hard time rating this one..: it’s like each chapter is a different book 👀 🤷‍♀️

“My dear, do you think you will know me when you and I get to heaven?
“Shall I know you? Why, I have always known you while here, do you think I shall be a greater fool when I get to heaven?

“If there is only one good wife in England, I am the man who put the ring on her finger, and long may she wear it. God bless the dear soul if she can put up with me; she shall never be put down by me.”

“When hearts agree, there joy will be” because marriage should be “merry-age.”

“If you can dip your pens into your hearts, appealing earnestness to the Lord, you will write well; and if you can gather on your knees at the gate of heaven, you will not fail to speak well.”

I think that I expected I would get to read the correspondence of Charles and Susie, this is more biographical. It’s still a sweet book, just not what I thought this far in.

Sweet encouragement to intertwine scripture memory and meditation into the day and prioritize it first- not at the expense of your responsibility but alongside it.

I enjoyed the first letter, it’s a nice read full of good reminders of character and a joyful heart for the newborn season! The one thing that’s sort of silly; but I don’t like the “when seminary ends and ministry begins” subtitle. I get what author intends to mean.. but I also think all of life as a believer is ministry! Roman’s 12:2! Ephesians 4! Col 1!

Indeed, theirs was a love “till Heaven, and then”

To write of their romance is, as Susie described “A sacred and delicate task”- sacred because marriage is first of all about Christ and His bride, th church. And delicate because it is the closest union into which two people can enter.
