Coming back to this after like what, 12 years?

“Of what dost thou speak, that tied the room together, Knave? Take pains, for I would well hear of that which tied the room together”

Just finished The Knight with the Lion. I think this one was my favourite! I really like how the events of this story happen simultaneously with the events of Knight of the Cart

Bro chapter 10 is so insanely meta — Rooney is clearly using the character of Alice as a vessel to critique literary industry, but it almost feels like she is roasting her own work as well. There is some serious insecurity exuding from the author it seems

Too many characters which makes it hard to follow sometimes but I’m heavily invested so far. Loving the subtleties of the family dynamic of the MaCabe’s.

Finished the most famous tale, The Knight of the Cart. Not sure what I was expecting, I thought there would be more “love triangle” aspects to the story, but it just seems to be Lancelot doing bad*ss things and he just so happens to be in love with Guinevere. This one feels less rich in imagery than the other tales, so I’m not quite sure what I was supposed to take away from this story.

A little disappointed so far not gonna lie💀 The premise is insanely cool but man does the humour fall flat sometimes. It’s very “boomer” coded and I’m rolling my eyes most of the time:/

Finished CligĂ©s! Not quite sure how I feel about it, the sequence where Fenice fakes her death was pretty fun, but I feel like I’m missing the point/commentary of the story. Apparently it’s a critic of Tristan legend; tales of “forbidden love”, which I’ve never read. I understood it as adultery only matters when a marriage is based on real love. If love is absent, the spouse was never ‘truly yours’

Finished Erec and Enide. Already, Erec is the embodiment of toxicity and misogyny in courtly behaviour, but ironically he serves as an allegory for Jesus (from like, “rising” from the dead and saving everybody at one point). This text was obviously supposed to be looked at through a christian lens, but I think there’s a lot more to unpack here, especially in the treatment of Enide. CligĂ©s next!

The act of war being presented as the will of God and the disintegration of christianity was not on my Wednesday morning bingo card.
