This is a more difficult read than I was expecting. They aren't even on Everest yet!

I had to double check this because at the time of this book being written neither Mallory nor Irvine had been found but I remember that in Into Thin Air Mallory's body had been found and (this is quite gross fyi) they found Irvine recently, but not really. Mallory was found in 1999 and was buried where he lay. A National geographic film team found a foot with a sock on with the label "A.C. Irvine" in 2025, that's it.

If this book doesn't make you want to never attempt to climb Mt. Everest I don't know what will. Also, I'm slightly (understatement) disturbed that there are pictures of Hall's body in the rock hollow described in the book online.

If you descended Everest without supplemental oxygen doesn't that count for something? The descent is the hardest part after all .

The pictures of (most of) the people that died just hurts. (Also not at all how I imagined any of them to look.)

When I was told this book was slightly disturbing I wasn't expecting that.(I'm glad I didn't read that while I was working.) "For the next 48 hours, Silver, Hunt, and Litch took turns pumping oxygen into Ngawang's lungs with the ambu bag... When secretions built up... Down the Shepas throat, Hunt would suck the tub clear with her mouth... By mid-June Ngawang would be dead, leaving behind a wife and four daughters..."

Okay but why is this straight out of Six of Crows? It's fucking Jurda all over again for the "super soldiers" just slightly different and honestly this book is up there with SoC so this is a good thing. (SoC is my favorite book of all time.)

The book should end here I feel and that's a bad sign for the rest of the book.

"'I'm the man.'"

What the fuck

Not me just realizing they aren't talking about American football 🤦‍♀️

"Why did you bring me here? Are you planning to kill me? I swear I'll turn into one of those vengeful ghosts and haunt you for eternity... If you hear doors squeaking and sounds in the hallways, that'll be me. If you see smoke in the mirrors, that'll be me, too. Oh and if you trip and fall in a game? Yup, totally me."

She was already drugged not even a full chapter in... Red flag 🚩

"Magic is extending its hand towards you, Ciri. To you, strange girl, Child of the Elder Blood, the Blood of Elves."
