I think I’m not going to continue reading. The writing is so choppy and repetitive. Maybe this book is geared toward middle grade but I thought it was marketed as a YA.

But it’s so repetitive and treats the reader like they’re dumb and need everything spoon fed, at the cost of connecting with the characters.

Unfortunately, this book was just not for me. About 27% and I just kept getting annoyed with the writing. Specifically when the author keeps alluding to an ominous backstory over and over. That kind of stuff really bothers me.

The audiobook narrator’s southern accent was so forced and distracting (and I live in Texas). But the biggest issue I had was how melodramatic all the characters are. Are these people grown adults or middle-schoolers? I also got bad vibes from the two love interests of the FMC being in a secular band when this is supposed to be a Christian romance. One guy was in the worship team left to join the band.

I DNFed it….I was not enjoying it and the amount of cringe “stars blasted” or “for moons stale” curses on EVERY SINGLE was so off putting and I couldn’t take it anymore.

The pacing of the book was so slow. The characters were juvenile. main characters as they are insufferable. They’re always bickering and not in a cute and banter type way, like in a two siblings fighting in the backseat sort of way.

I can't keep forcing myself to read this anymore. Kingfisher calling her a dog in heat is such an ick. These characters are too horny and the sexual innuendos are cheesy. Why is sex and penises always bring brought up. FMC is annoyed and legit dumber than a sack of bricks.

What a fun book! It was sweet and filled with musical and nerdy references. Was it predictable? Yes, but I thought it was cute. Finished it in less than a day.
