Wow that was brutal… tough couple of chapters to read from Zevander’s past.

“Tears broke down his temples as he lay trapped in the fragile grasp of life. He’d always imagined death to be the most painful experience of all, but it wasn’t. Living was far more painful than dying.” (Chapter 55).

Idk if I can forgive Keri Lake for writing such a cruel backstory for Zevander 💔

I pray there’s a way for Zevander to be free of the enchanted piercings… maybe if his tormentor, General Loyce is dead then he’ll be free? It would make the most sense if the person who cursed him dies, then the curse dies w them too…

Also Sacton Crain’s death 👏🏽

And why did Keri Lake have to make Zevander & Maevyth go through so much trauma when they were young 💔😢

From all the books I’ve read, General Loyce is the most cruelest villain I’ve come across.

So I guess Mortasia is not deserted after all & the survivors are living in the temple.. What was weird tho was Maevyth & Aleysia finding their father in a cell when he was barely mentioned at all in book 1 or 2..

Also why is Zevander and Maevyth’s story so sad :( the fact that he was forced to forget her 💔

So Alastor is actually Cadavro & he was a spindling?!

And omg not Zevander being introduced to Maevyth way before the future even happened. Finding out that he caused the carriage accident is crazy!! Although I’m certain Maevyth had no idea it was Zevander’s presence, I’m sure he eventually realized it was her that he’d see everytime he escaped into Caligorya.

Zevander witnessing his father’s death was brutal, and the aftermath of the warden & general trying to force Zevander to swallow his dad’s ashes.. beyond cruel.

So Aleysia is awake & something is wrong… she doesnt seem like herself. Like, she woke up right when the rabbit died & I feel like it’s connected. Also I agree w Zevander’s theory that The Crone Witch hid Aleysia in the pantry to protect Maevyth.

Okayyy wow we got lots of answers these last couple of chapters… from the flashbacks of Zevander’s past it was revealed why his father sought out Cadavros to begin with… lots of clarity tbh bc this whole time I thought his dad was just an idiot.

Also Maevyth’s new glyph of the Corvugon was a very clever scene but my question is why didn’t Raivox come to Maevyth after she whistled for him??

The way I cheered when Khazimyr’s POV was introduced! I just assumed book 2 would be similar to Anathema where we get Maevyth and Zevander’s POVs but I’m so happy we now have a third POV so we’re still updated on what’s happening back in Aethyria!!

Also I can’t get enough of the yearning, flirting & sexual tension between Maevyth & Zevander! I love how this is book 2 and yet the slow burn continues!!

I’m curious to see how Maevyth and Zevander are going to escape the mortal lands because I know it’s just the beginning but it feels like their trapped there …

Also this book is definitely different than book 1 since it has flashbacks to Zevander’s past when he was younger, but idk if I’m ready to read about his trauma in depth 💔

This is a gothic fantasy done well! The themes of forbidden love, social exclusion, vengeance, confronting trauma, and identity & origin captivated me!!
Also, I love how the primary focus is the storyline & the romance doesn’t fully develop until 90% of the book (this is the slow burn/yearning that I needed)
Omg that cliffhanger tho.. and I wanna say that the rage I feel for what Zevander went through is crazy..

My heart breaks for Zevander & all the trauma he went through as a kid💔.. The scene with Maevyth controlling the sablefyre had me shookkk
The sexual tension between Zevander & Maevyth is crazy😩 & when it was revealed to Zevander that Maevyth is his mate & that’s why he couldn’t kill her at the beginning of the book🫢 makes so much sense why the black flames refused refused to take her life!

Zevander & Maevyth finally kissed 🥹 but they’re back to their minimal interactions as Zevander said “this can never happen again” 🙁

Also I’m not a fan of Rykaia … first she tells Maevyth to use Zevander’s bathroom to bathe without telling him & he almost walks in on Maevyth naked … and then she gives Maevyth alcohol without telling her what it is …

So Maevyth’s newest glyph is that she can channel and control others’ powers 🤯

Also my theory is that Raivox saved Aleysia from Cadavoros/Moros and somehow the Crone Witch found them & is keeping them safe? I just really hope Aleysia is alive🤞🏽

I’m loving the enemies to lovers slow burn w Maevyth & Zevander 🫶🏽

Wow Belikon is beyond cruel for making Khydan go through the portal without a relic when he was only a Faeling… speaking of Khydan I’m loving the reveal of his true name!! It’s such a groundbreaking moment as it marks his freedom from being oath bound.
Umm I’m not loving the ending tho 😭 I didn’t like the book ending in the middle of such an intense situation… didn’t feel like the ending of a book.

This is too much… idk how I feel about the way Iseabail was treated … also I was so sad when Onyx died but bringing him back to life? How can Saeris cheat death? I hope it’s explained bc it feels like a stretch … plus I feel like w fantasy books, deaths of characters we love are inevitable so the author should’ve just let it be … like how can we go through a whole war and not lose characters we love?

Omg how did I not see this Iseabail twist coming 🤦🏽‍♀️ i remember at one point thinking that it was strange she wanted to spend so much time in Cahlish away from her clan … but I wouldn’t have guessed she had her own agenda

Why didn’t Callie Hart make Hayden more useful or smart 😭 also I don’t understand how Hayden can be so naive/childlike when he’s 20 years old, and has lived in a desert of poverty and cruelty his whole life 🤔

I’m praying Archer is able to be healed 😢
