I have no idea who is narrating the book & I think maybe that’s part of the thing?

At some points, it’s a good read but overall corny & feels a lot like books I’ve read before. Reads exactly like a TV series. Bored with the “go to therapy” so you can “get back to work” as soon as possible standard. So much reinforcement of capitalist, girl boss shit. A loving monogamous relationship is always the goal. Tired.

I think there is a way to tell stories from our youth while recognizing that the views we held and language we used were problematic. I picked this book because I thought it would be relatable as someone from Massachusetts who grew up with addict parents. While it is relatable, I feel like that’s mostly the New England crassness & supposed to be funny racism which I haven’t been able to tolerate since age 18.

Wow. I keep reacting out loud while reading. I’m like blown away but also not surprised at all by how the plot developed. I think this is a good reminder that unless we actually say out loud and do something about what is happening around it, it will continue to derail exactly like we think it will.

Really loving listening to this & feeling connected to queer elders and activists who spent their lives fighting for their community. The organization made such a huge difference in healthcare, visibility for queer folks, access to sex education, and we have so much to learn from what they accomplished and the challenges they faced.

Loving it so far - the author’s voice is very soothing and the content is perfect if you need to ground yourself in the present and find a path forward even when the outlook is grim.
