Edgard Augusto is finished with A Moveable Feast
The edition I've read is from Epubbooks in 2017, with 183 pages in English. However, since I couldn't find it here, I opted to keep this one as it's the closest in page count.

The reading slowed down after about 40%.
It became repetitive due to the introduction of his impressions of a different artist in each chapter.

It picked up speed again after 65% when he introduced Scott Fitzgerald into the story.

I thought it was a Gatsby-style story, but it's actually a kind of autobiography edited by his widow and released a few years after his death.

The edition I'm reading is from Epubbooks in 2017, with 183 pages in English. However, since I couldn't find it on Skoob, I opted to keep this one as it's the closest in page count.

Edgard Augusto
Edgard Augusto is finished with Pequena Coreografia do Adeus
The themes addressed are domestic violence, mainly that perpetrated by the violent mother, and the secondary effects this produces in the victims of this trauma;  Parental abandonment by a divorced father.

The last 20% concentrates all the twists and turns that have matured throughout the story in a realistic, yet still surprising way. A bittersweet feeling of sadness lingers at the end.

He was generalizing, but it only applies to individuals experiencing from post-industrial society, which is neither homogeneous geographically nor economically; much less ethnically.

"The more often one changes one’s identity, the more production is dynamized. Industrial disciplinary society relied on unchanging identity, whereas postindustrial achievement society requires a flexible person to heighten production."

Someone tells him that people haven't abandoned contemplative life for choice; The lack of freedom has deprived many of having time to contemplate. He assumes that people possess "leisure," but This is not the reality for most people who remain trapped in rotating shifts and days off prohibiting them to seek job interviews, or cuz they must give notice to their current employer and lack savings cuz of minimum wage.

It can be very interesting for straight women interested by Arab World Sexism, as well as for anyone interested in Middle Eastern societies dynamics in recent decades.

I don't suggest it to karens or ppl with transphobic sensibilities: it'll further clog ur minds in dissociative thoughts from a masculine reality that you've never experienced firsthand; you live another reality, but you will not experience this one!

This one was the most boring part so far, from the halfway point until I reached 70% of the book.
Maybe that's why I've been digesting the pages less, and started skimming the text faster and faster.

I'm hoping this next chapter is worth it!

The story doesn't offer thematic innovation for those accustomed to small towns and provincial mentalities, whether of the common people or the working class; however, the author's voice is inspirational.

I had great writing ideas from simple phrases and the reuse of common words in more poetic ways. This allows us to explore synesthesia, even if it's not the main focus of the narrative, as are the action verbs.

It's very interesting how the author subtly shows the educational differences between poors, the emerging middle class, and riches; without needing to explicitly state which social group is acting as described, you simply make the association... While the latter resolve their problems with escape and silence, the former resort to verbal or physical violence.

It's amazing how the use of dialogue can make the reading faster. Not that the first chapters are weak, but the 100% indirect language makes reading a text written in the past tenses even slower.

Does every novel need to have a character with clichés like men are from Mars and women are from Venus?

That's a power deads have over us: not just about missing them or not seeing them ever again. They remain alive in our memory, our eyes' corners, lurking us. And we'till don't have a word for this feeling beyond longing, grief, fear, or superstition.

"Dans un mélange de superstition et de fatigue, tu imaginas qu’il pouvait être là, présence invisible, omnisciente, observant tes gestes et déchiffrant tes pensées."

I'm reading directly in French. 2023 edition with corrections by Julie Robert.
My first impression is that an intermediate level of French is necessary.
I've been reading on Kindle, which helps a lot because of the French-French dictionary. But there are certain sentences where you need to use Wi-Fi to look up some sentences full meaning. There have been three such instances so far, to be precise.

I'm alone thinking how strange it is when they have friends group pics on dating apps like Tinder and Grindr?

For me it seems you're not interesting enough and need people around you to have a match.

""We should take a photo now for you to use. For that sort of thing, it’s best not to use a selfie. You’re much more likely to come across as likable and get lots of responses with a photo of you surrounded (...)"

I can't stand her name, I can't stand her name being repeated every three pages. Her name sounds so funny in my native language that I keep laughing at it over and over. It just reminds me why they changed Count Dooku's name for Dookan in the Brazilian translations of Star Wars.

Those who worked at the cash register knows how must be the fastest possible than others. Even more so if you also have to make suggestive sales, offering customers daily products chosen by mgmt.

"Speed is of the essence, and I barely use my head as the rules ingrained in me issue instructions directly to my body. (...) I automatically read the customer's minutest movements and gaze, and my body acts reflexively".

A conflict between the younger sister wanting to remove the inherited wardrobe from her transformed-brother's room, while their mother believes that keeping the wardrobe in his sight will make him return to who he was:

“and by taking the furniture away, won’t it seem like we’re showing that we’ve given up all hope of improvement and we’re abandoning him to cope for himself?".

Its details austerity and words choice give readers room for imagination allowing this fantastical narrative to fit their own reality. Was Gregor a crossdresser?

"he made his way over to the chest of drawers—this was easily done, probably because of the practise he had already had in bed—where he now tried to get himself upright. He really did want to open the door, really did want to let them see him"

Its reading experience is so fast. It's definitely a nice book to broke any reading slump you maybe stuck.
Sex scene between characters are better paced in its paced, not being central to the narrative itself, maybe that sometimes it feels overwriting.

Reading is way faster than the first half of the first book. It seems they have changed something in the editorial process after that. It seems very explicit.

Both new characters are well developed. Each one being explored in their social lifes and personal struggles rather than just one sex scene after another. Now we can read a proper storyline.
