Very Sebald! Wandering, sometimes beautiful meditations triggered by a walk across Suffolk on the mid-nineties. Deals with death, loss, silk worms and landscape across ten meditative chapters. Engrossing.

Excellent mystery which is really the pretext for commentary of mysogeny, conspiracy theory, violence against women and abuse of power. In the end the mystery element is a little unsatisfying, but the narrative is pacy, engaging, profound at times and funny in places.

Stylistically innovative story dealing with Lincoln’s grief at the loss of a child, as well as death more generally, the civil war, slavery and oppression. Zips along. Perhaps misses delivering quite the punch at the end, but the scenes of Lincoln grieving are powerfully wrought.

A page turner which I felt looses steam as it goes on. The plot is unnecessarily complex in places and I didn’t understand the relevance of the astrology at all. Interestingly written in Dickensian style, but ultimately unsatisfying.

Episodic series of stories set out over one summer all revolving around the relationship (often tense and grumpy) between grandmother and granddaughter. Ultimately quite light.
