This book is magnificent. Purposely slowing down as I don’t want it end.

Some elements are entertaining, but I’m finding this book a chore to read. I get that the narrator is of unsound mind, but the clunky phrasing is frustrating and requires multiple passes. Moreover, it’s so rambling my mind keeps wandering. Can’t wait to finish.

I know it’s a Pulitzer winner and all, but did I just read a scene where a first grader who’s learning to read uses the word “contentious?”

My third Kristin Hannah book in a row and wow, it’s really good and absorbing. Can’t help but notice how many characters in all the books “tent their hands over their eyes” to look into the distance. And man, there are a lot of goats bleating. Also interesting that characters in both The Nightingale and The Great Alone are as “small as a comma.” I’m nitpicking again, but c’mon editors!
