I attempted to read a book by David Mitchell a few years ago and found his writing style to be utterly exhausting. But I have been interested in learning about British history and I heard this was a good place to get a decent overview.

"I tried without success to swallow the thickness in my throat. I was raging inside. Why had God made her sick?"

"You did really good, Dad," I told him as a spasm of deep, oily coughs racked his body. "Nobody ever launched a better rocket than you."

"Daisy Mae was gone. I had years yet to live and I missed her already."

Packed chapter to be fair, a lot of exciting rocket launches and then the attempted murder on Sonny's dad

When the more technical aspects of rocket building and science are being written about it can get a bit dry. Especially for a moron like me.

Glad we seem to have stuck to the shorter chapters, it makes it a lot more digestable.
I have been wondering for a while how it's so that Homer Hickman can recall everything in such detail. But I guess he just kept a diary or something.

"I indulged in my self pity, the nastiness inside me curdling like putrid milk."

Sonny was being a proper little shit this chapter. But that's ok I guess, he's going through things.

"The worst thing I had ever felt in my life had taken control of me. I felt: nothing."

Intense as fuhhhh chapter. If I got told as a child I was allowed to cry I genuinely wouldn't know what to do. What a sad thing to say to someone.

Chapters have become a lot more bitesize all of a sudden. Not that I'm complaining, it's actually nice not having to leave chapters halfway read anymore.

"You're my boy." In the dark, I could savour the words without embarrassment."

"Sherman sniffed at it. "It smells like candy," he said.
