Definitely a 'don't judge a book by its cover' situation. The cover is, imo, kinda goofy. But the story (!!!) I am loving this book!! The characters are not high schoolers or college kids. They have depth and substance. The little kids (single dad) are genuine. Emily's friends are a little annoying, kinda shallow, and hard to keep track of, but they're not around much, which is good. Love Emily!!

I was *loving* this book...until randomly Astrid makes a unilateral decision that Easton needs to go back to Queens for work due to trauma from her ex-husband. No real discussion. Easton just starts packing.

So, yeah, I'm breaking here because this plot point is stupid and makes me mad. Have I mentioned I'm sooooo tired of books that start out great, draw me in, then have something random like this happen at 70%?

This one has a high school vibe that just doesn't work for me. I get it because many of the characters have been friends since high school, but it's still a little grating.

Some of Avery's gal pals are obnoxious, and that...grates and is irritating.

But the story itself is good. I like Avery. I like Tanner. I like some of the other characters, even though keeping them organized is a bit of a jumble.

I'm hooked in the first chapter. Very intrigued by Elenie. This book has a lot of potential.
