Sooo that first sex scene was cringy AF but it's good to know there was a point to it. Elizabeth is terrified of this new husband of hers, so she makes the whole thing awkward. I have no idea of how Asa kept an erection with her prudish, ignorant melodrama but soon he figures out she's scared of men in general after confessing her father's role in her mother's death. He asks to court her so she can begin to feel safe

The author is trying too hard to have Ellesia come off as the saint...rescuing orphaned children, trying to change the town to make it safer for the halfings, and fixing everyone's problems.... She's a total Mary Sue....the only bad thing she does is because of her king's oath. Kinda yuck. But the rest of the story is interesting....
