It's a pity the movie did not really do this book justice. It's much more involved, psychologically, than can be portrayed in a movie. And the whole Valentine and Peter thread is completely missing in the movie! Only half way, but really enjoying it.

Ho hum. Still waiting for the laughs. Bored of reading about cushions and cook books and the privileged life of inner Sydney dwellers.

I'm finding it hard going and not that riveting. I'm sure the action will start at some point.

Loving this book so far. There is a lot of background that he mixes in but it doesn't feel like it is detracting from the action or the flow of the narrative or damage the sense of danger.

Rarely do I read a book and picture VERY clearly a character but this time Nicholas, in my head, is very firmly the actor Peter Dinklage. I wonder if this could be made into a movie, but I think it may not work.

It's refreshing to see someone look at the original text afresh, looking at the actual language in context and using the rest of the Bible to inform decisions on the meaning of unsure terms. Such new insights into unsure passages that make sense of the entire book as a whole. Just the Appendices to go but I'm rewriting 1 Peter using the better informed translation. Then I'll read 1 Peter again.

Such an important reminder of Stalin's dreadful reign and the treatment of the Ukrainians.

I would say it is a little over written and there are many names that makes it a little confusing, but enjoyable so far.

The insights into the translation of the original text brings a whole new understanding to the words on the page. And a much better understanding, at that.

I am enjoying this book and look forward to a series of talks on 1 Peter so I can refer back to this to get more out of the talks.

Little snippets here and there really help bring a greater illumination.

It is still interesting to have seen the way this book was done on TV and then the book. The order of events has been moved around and in both they make sense.

Atwood allows Offred (who is not named as June in the book, but Atwood recognises it is a likely name for her) to spend time in her head and muse away, linking thoughts and ideas - scatting almost, I guess you could call it.

Pity it's just one book.

Having seen the series first, it is an adjustment to having the story set in the 1980's and there being no reference back to present day technology. But I find that Atwood's writing is poetic. I recognise some of the techniques that were encouraged in my MA (Creative Writing) and she uses them so effectively. The way the TV series jumps around in time is certainly indicative of Atwood's writing style. LOVING THIS!

I can see why people said this book was overwritten and it went on and on. I am finding myself now comparing it to the brevity that the movie offered, but I don't remember being like this when the book was all there was.

With a son doing the HSC this year, I feel for Ron, Harry and Hermione as they sit their OWLS!

So far, up to this point (being the first time I've read this since seeing the movie) the movie makers have been mostly true to the book! Of course no SPEW and no Quidditch in movie 5 as there is in the book but otherwise, everything is pretty true!

Looking forward to visiting St Mungo's, though, and seeing the decrees come out more slowly.

Even the second time through I am loving this book. Actually, it's probably my 5th time through it, if not more. However, I really find the Ron/Hermione dynamic quite annoying. Hermione is really more unlikable in the books than she is in the movies.

1 chapter to go but now there are pages missing (it's an old book reprinted). However, he's done using the Mary & Martha passages and he is so able to draw so much from each piece. He truly shows how rich God's word can be if given enough time to meditate on it.

Some amazing truths written in this sermon series that are talking to me not just for my story about Mary and Martha, but also in life. It would have been great to sit through one of these sermons!

The language is old (1870, I think it was written and delivered as sermons) and wow, flowery. I think if I had been sitting in Stewart's church listening to these sermons it would have almost been listening to a foreign language. Anyway, his insights are brilliant and the way he draws from so few sentences so great gospel truths. Loving it so far, as much as I can understand him.

I've been reading the first book in this installment alternating with "Feast of Crows" so I can get all the characters to about the same place at the same time by the beginning of book 2 of the installment. Highly recommended way of reading it.

More poetry than novel and really don't like poetry. So, not really enjoying it at all. But I must read for Uni.
