Rich people budget too, and budgeting can be fun if used correctly. Rich people love to plan their money and budget to stay rich. When the stock market is down, they buy! But you need the accessible cash in order to do so! Have your money make money and watch out for lifestyle creep! Jeff Bezos makes 81k/yr but his stock is worth 225B. On paper he’s like the rest of us “cash poor” - everything is in assets

The rest of this section talked all about how to go where your valued and to be selfish because these companies are. It’s okay to sell your skills, work your network, know when it’s time to go and ask for what you deserve. Rich people know their worth because they are competitive and want to be on top. You have to know what worth you possess. And if you can’t get more money, get a side hustle in the meantime!

2 chapters in and this book is so entertaining. It starts by explaining how the american dream is dead. Then how rich people view money as something that works for them and is invisible to them (I.e. investments, real estate, company stocks). They view money from the abundance mindset and think long-term. “You can only save as much as you earn, but you can always earn money”

We can redesign abusive designs, which impede our ability to make autonomous choices and manipulate us to act against our self interest. We have an opportunity to create change and use redesign to reduce technology overuse.

Tech companies that are left to self regulate, without constant legal pressures, are likely to manipulate designs to maintain over use. And they know exactly what they are doing, and are hiding behind the first amendment and different barriers to continue to rob people of their decision-making choices.

This part of the book talks all about privacy and all the issues that Facebook has had with privacy. Including an example that talked about how in 2018 reports at the Cambridge analytics revealed how Facebook used user information to aid Trump campaign and to tilt the presidential election results.

First amendment rights applies to foods. However, the court agreed that there is no consensus that genetically modified food is not natural so therefore they can sell us genetically modified food posing as natural even when it’s not.

Industries that profit off your addiction with always make it seem like you are the problem, even when you are not. They are just corrupt with no ethics. Ex: tobacco industry.

Im really enjoying this book so far. The third chapter was all about invisible chains that keep us hooked on technology and social media. It highlighted how the tech industry will say you need to take more personal responsibility while simultaneously robbing you of the ability to limit your screen time because it’s so easily accessible.

This chapter focused all on the idea of addiction to technology and how it has impacted the youth and people’s interactions with one another. I didn’t know the DSM 5 now includes non-substance addictions. Loved the exam about Reddit and how site like that acts on your reward system.

So I Got This book When I Got into college and it was one of the books recommended for us to read. Now I am rereading it, and I am reminded of some things that I have heard or said.
1. I know exactly how you feel.
2. The same thing happens to me too.
3. You are so articulate ( this was said to me.)
4. You speak the language very well. ( also said to me)

Raising the bar – B. in Barr reminds us to breathe, A reminds us to acknowledge and R reminds us to respond. This is the best formula when heated and trying to have a productive conversation.

Pile on principle: after a lifetime of hurt being piled on or being told, you’re not good enough, you may want to avoid some pain by creating barriers or distance between yourself and others in an effort to save yourself from curing more pain

Intent vs. impact - when you do a careless behavior, it can end up hurting the other person. The three options are to blame the other person, try to shift your focus by saying that you didn’t intend to hurt them or take responsibility for your carelessness pick up the pieces and try to make things right as possible.

The book is good so far! One key point that I like that they mentioned is “just because we have good intentions does not mean that the other person is not negatively impacted”

A firm, constructive complaint. Lets your partner know you care and that you’re willing to fight for it to define our bottom line which includes our needs and the limits of our tolerance which it’s at the heart of having both a relationship and a self. doing so is ultimately an act of kindness and respect. I really like the section in this part where it talks about the pursuer and the distance relationship.

It’s okay to accept the apology even if you don’t agree with it. No need to get into a tug of war.

For some it’s easier to perform apologies rather than admit their faults.

This past section was all about how if you want someone to apologize and they have offended you in some way. It’s best to be short and to the point to allow them time to reflect on what it is you’re saying. It also talked about how using eye statements is important.

This last chapter was really interesting and talked about those who do heinous acts and how you can’t expect a apology from them until they are honest with themselves. It’s important to protect yourself first!
