Merlyn is so much more similar to the Disney sword in the stone than I was expecting. Very interesting juxtaposition to reading lord of the rings. 2 very different yet equally influential fantasy tales

2/5 - The Hope Boat by Gabino Iglesias

A bit of a meandering tale of a woman leftover from the pandemic trying to cling on to hope. The story just moves her from place to place and ends with a vague cliffhanger that left no impact on me

It can be a bit dry, but the details are descriptive, and it does an excellent job of portraying the enormity of the fair

This is a difficult but rewarding read so far

1/5 - In a Pig's Eye by Joe R. Lansdale

A story with numerous gross things written, and yet the produced no reaction because of the amateur writing and complete lack of tension building. It felt the first draft of something that could be alright if written and built up well, but it was just laud out as this happens and then this happens and then this happens. Too much luck, and no tension

4/5 - Lockdown by Bev Vincent

An isolated American island relies on its isolation to prevent spread of the disease, yet the reach of randall flagg and mother Abigail do not require human contact. This story furthers my theory of the shining making one immune to the virus, and shown a light on one of the edge cases of a pandemic and the use of isolation within it.

4/5 - Every Dog Has Its Day by Bryan Smith

Im a suckered for a boy and his dog, and while this story teases that emotional pull, the focus for me was on Randall Flagg's attempt at this young man's life. Flagg's pursuit of troubled, imperfect people is on full display with his subtle magicians touch, and I find those aspects of the stand and the greater dark tower universe fascinating

This one took a little while to get rolling, but im bought in now

Interesting look at las Vegas soon after Captain Tripps has hit the population and good use of Randall flags abilities that feels in line with The Stand lore, yet expands on how it works

Im pretty sure these book aren't gonna work for me, but im not giving up yet

1/5 - The Tripps by Wrath James White

Dialogue felt forced and unnatural, descriptions felt pointless and long winded, violence was gory with no feeling of tension or impact, and the use of Randall Flagg stretched his powers outside of established boundaries from the stand and the dark tower.

I can see how this author could be attractive for some, but I did not find him interesting or exciting at all

5/5 - Room 24 by Caroline Kepnes

A truly remarkable and disturbing look at a man with seemingly good intentions that quickly show something much darker underneath behind a veil of kindness that he hides from himself.

So king is doing some both sides stuff about abortion (dont like that), but he also has an adorable elderly romance happening, and the aura colors are a very different jump into horror and fantasy that I like

5/5 - Luckey Quarter

This one somehow managed to weave a tale of an unlucky woman having her luck change for good, and yet held a tone of fear over every good thing that happened. At a high level nothing is wrong, yet the persistent feeling that everything is wrong lingers.
