This book has had me hooked since the start.

I can’t help but feel like I’m saying goodbye to some old friends as I approach the end of this book. It is so lovely, and the characters are charming and wonderful. I’m genuinely sad about saying goodbye to them, the aquarium and the sleepy small seaside town.

“Humans. For the most part, I tolerate them.” Same Marcellus. Same.

Really enjoying this so far, not at all what o expected but in the best way!

A lot of relatable moments here, but I’m wishing there were higher stakes to this story.

20% in and I’m Not Jessica Chen is already serving the all-too-familiar dish of parental disappointment. Love that for me.😩🫠

I’m losing steam on this one fast….

I’m so sad that I’m almost done with this book. Already it feels like I’m holding my breath for what’s to come. I’m not ready to part with these characters.

I desperately wish goodreads let us use memes or pictures. I think the author is aiming for dangerous and intimate, but the writing feels overly done and melodramatic. Anytime the MMC has an inner monologue (something like “violence has always been my peace”) I’m internally cringing “okay Shakespeare of the underworld, please effing relax”. I actually hate it here.

I’m torn. The storyline has me genuinely curious, but the writing keeps pulling me out of the moment….it’s distracting and breaks the immersion.

The mention of JNCO jeans made me howl with laughter. Memories of 1999 that were tucked away came flooding back. JNCO jeans, beanies, band t-shirts and tattoo chokers anyone?

This book is terrible, but I’m having the BEST time reading it. Plot? Nonexistent. FMC? Annoying. World building? Girl, the kingdom doesn’t even have a name. I can’t put it down.

This book has little pockets of magic that remind me of all the rom-coms I loved in the 2000s. Sweet, endearing, and just the right amount of secondhand embarrassment. So cute so far!

The 90s terminology, and atmosphere is so nostalgic!

Okay I need a small break from this book…it’s that slow, unsettling kind of dread where I’m starting to side eye the shadows in my own home. This is a true masterclass in tension. But I have the MAJOR heebie jeebies and I definitely need to touch grass. But not in the dark.
