in an enormous reading slump so going back to one of my all time faves

honestly, i don't like the new quarter/half stars feature. don't throw tomatoes at me!! it's just that i have over 2000 books rated already and now their ratings are kind of wrong?! it looks like i think hundreds of books should be rated 5/5 and not 4.5 or 4.75 out of 5 now.

also i liked being forced to choose between integers.

when you need to read something for book club but you're a mood reader and you're 100% not in the mood for it

i guessed who was messing around with things at like, 25% and jeanie has only JUST started suspecting them.

but she's also ruled them out like "oh, but they don't have a motive..." bitch yes they do, i know the exact motive and i'm 90% sure i'm gonna be right lol

but i am still enjoying myself, it's a cute read and it's relatively well written. i'm not expecting insane machinations from a cosy romance novel

i've always been interested in the warhammer 40k universe, but i don't have the patience - or more importantly, the money - for tabletop wargames.

and books are my preferred entertainment medium anyway, so here we go!

i don't usually do seasonal reads but people keep talking about this one! i've been wanting to read it for a while but i've been waiting for the weather to get sufficiently chilly

this is the second female-led american psycho pastiche i have read, with maeve fly being the first.

it's not just me who thinks it's really poor form to spoil major plot points of other books in a novel, right? why does this keep happening?!

this book does live up to the hype...

honestly i was expecting it to be a lot more smutty and dark romance-y but i'm still enjoying myself

is that good, or bad? idk, i mean, i really liked ToG but i was also a teenager when i read it & didn't like the 5th book, possibly bc i was aging out of the YA bracket lol

but this isn't YA, and the ToG-ness is making me feel kinda nostalgic - i think if i approach this from that mindset, i will have a better time.

not vibing with this at all but i'm gonna try and not be a grumpy bitch... it's very early days so things may turn around...

petition for my book club to stop picking the worst books on the planet

i'm really not feeling this at all... i loved the other three books so much, so i'm not sure why i'm not clicking with this one? maybe i don't remember enough from the previous books? but this one doesn't really seem to be a DIRECT sequel, it shouldn't really matter if i don't remember the ins and outs of the third book.

oh thank god it starts with a recap. i can't remember shit or balls about anything i read/watched/listened to more than 5-7 business days ago

NOOOO and lila is one of those "not like the other girls" who goes on about how she's so glad she isn't one of "the ladies" ew.

i would have liked this book when i was 16, i should have read it then. or maybe i wouldn't, i think i grew out of thinking being "not like the other girls" was cool when i was 14.

i hope lila gets a character arc because... this is way too puerile and shitty-YA for me

Enjoying this so far, it’s really scratching the itch left by The Scum Villain’s Self Saving System - I want more “Protag is trapped in a game/game-like environment” books! Let me know if you can recommend any more!

i hope this is an indication of our narrator being unreliable and a bullshitter (possible, i think!) because otherwise... rachel please, it's bad enough when men write this, let alone women too

(she says "are they real? does it matter?" afterwards as a sort of "i know what you're thinking..." thing, but women with implants need to wear a bra for comfort too!!!!)

Delighted to say that I'm enjoying this a LOT more than the other Ishiguro book I read (Klara). It's still early days, but this seems very promising.
