this is the SECOND time my book club has chosen a book that spoils other books smh i'm gonna crash out

luckily this time i'd already read the book they spoiled - never let me go - but seriously, what the fuck?

it's not just me who thinks it's really poor form to spoil major plot points of other books in a novel, right? why does this keep happening?!

this book does live up to the hype...

honestly i was expecting it to be a lot more smutty and dark romance-y but i'm still enjoying myself

is that good, or bad? idk, i mean, i really liked ToG but i was also a teenager when i read it & didn't like the 5th book, possibly bc i was aging out of the YA bracket lol

but this isn't YA, and the ToG-ness is making me feel kinda nostalgic - i think if i approach this from that mindset, i will have a better time.

not vibing with this at all but i'm gonna try and not be a grumpy bitch... it's very early days so things may turn around...

i'm really not feeling this at all... i loved the other three books so much, so i'm not sure why i'm not clicking with this one? maybe i don't remember enough from the previous books? but this one doesn't really seem to be a DIRECT sequel, it shouldn't really matter if i don't remember the ins and outs of the third book.

i would have liked this book when i was 16, i should have read it then. or maybe i wouldn't, i think i grew out of thinking being "not like the other girls" was cool when i was 14.

i hope lila gets a character arc because... this is way too puerile and shitty-YA for me

Enjoying this so far, it’s really scratching the itch left by The Scum Villain’s Self Saving System - I want more “Protag is trapped in a game/game-like environment” books! Let me know if you can recommend any more!

i hope this is an indication of our narrator being unreliable and a bullshitter (possible, i think!) because otherwise... rachel please, it's bad enough when men write this, let alone women too

(she says "are they real? does it matter?" afterwards as a sort of "i know what you're thinking..." thing, but women with implants need to wear a bra for comfort too!!!!)

Delighted to say that I'm enjoying this a LOT more than the other Ishiguro book I read (Klara). It's still early days, but this seems very promising.

The only book I've read by Ishiguro is Klara and the Sun, which I didn't like at all.

I didn't plan on picking up another book by Ishiguro tbh, but I've just joined a book club and this is the pick of the month. I hope I'll enjoy this one! But I've heard it has "dark academia" vibes, and as someone who's been out of uni for years now, I'm not sure that appeals to me much anymore.

But we'll see!

Classic KA Merikan book so far. It's steamy, the characters are good but not great - there's more to them than meets the eye, but in a cliche way? - and the writing is also not great but somehow maddeningly addictive.

This started off extremely strong, but is now starting to drag. I imagine it will pick up again in the last third, but I do hate it when books are a slog in the middle. I'm still enjoying it a lot. There's a lot of scope for it to be 5 stars, some scope for it to be 3 or below, and 4 is probably the most likely. We'll see.
