i'm really not feeling this at all... i loved the other three books so much, so i'm not sure why i'm not clicking with this one? maybe i don't remember enough from the previous books? but this one doesn't really seem to be a DIRECT sequel, it shouldn't really matter if i don't remember the ins and outs of the third book.

Yeah, all you really need to remember from the third is the basic trapped in VR bit as what got the lead so screwed up. I know someone else who also didn't click with this one, though in his case I think part of it was being a Trek fan and the shrimps being a merciless piss-take of the whole warrior culture trope that gave us the Klingons.

@Alex Thanks for letting me know, I did get the feeling that I didn't really need to remember that much, but I was second-guessing myself because I just wasn't enjoying myself very much.That's interesting, I've only seen a bit of Trek here and there so I didn't twig.
I hope I'll get into the swing of it soon, I'm still less than halfway along so plenty of time!
