Was bored and impatient until page 140 when I finally felt emotional and moved.

On page 45 I was convinced this was a 5 star read but I’m now thinking it’s more 4 star, feeling a bit burnt out and sad but I’ve enjoyed the philosophy and writing style and would recommend this just so people are challenged to think critically about the themes in here. Love the exploration of ‘what is history’. Also the honesty and self reflection is awesome.

This book is annoying me, why do we keep going back in time and why are we spending so much time with the mushroom lady?

How is Frankenstein smart enough to create life but not smart enough for pattern recognition… the monster keeps killing his loved ones instead of going after him, how was he not predicting this goal/outcome? Surely he should have given Elizabeth the weapons not himself…or at least one?

Also the story within a story within a story is annoying me (we lose the ability to differentiate what is reflective narration vs accurate real-time raw narration)

How is he both altruistic (giving them wood and not taking their food) but then also threatens violence on innocent people? It’s not consistent… he’s unnaturally sophisticated in some things and not at all in others and it seems completely random and lacking logic

I’m getting a little oversaturated with ‘majestic nature’ references … and also it makes no sense that the creature know the names for sparrows and blackbirds…I’m annoyed at the lack of logic/consistency

Woah depressing, he could have done more at the trial…booooo what a coward

I’m officially terrified of mushrooms again (a series of unfortunate events and the last of us are also to blame) -are the mushroom facts true?

Going slow cus I take the world building seriously and then Jack wanted me to restart from beginning and read it to him- gotta get back to my spot cus things are about to go down

Dad and rose gave it to me, can’t really remember what it’s about other than it’s at a university and Steven fry liked it

Keep falling asleep to it on audio but seems cute, not running to finish it though
