first of all, alissa nutting is an incredible writer. she has a way with words that really captures you as a reader, her elongated use of descriptions and pointed chosen words really help you look into celeste's minds - like when she chose to liken the colour red to a dog erection - it really paints a picture of where her mind sits.
the extensive planning on Celeste's part really shows how perverted and sick she is

as with every book to movie adaption, the movie misses out some really good story points. the bit about johanssen being chosen to be the only one to survive and the rest having to kill themselves and her cannibalize them is a good small plotline. idk if you can call it a plotline, it's only mentioned in hypothetical. but it's good. god i love science fiction.
