I feel like this should be a quicker read but I’m losing steam 🫠 lots of small time petty boy drama going on

Hoping this lives up to the hype but I can tell from the jump this is deeply character-driven

I’m sucked in! I’ve read a lot of post-apocalyptic fiction but I’ve never read anything quite like this.

Took me a minute to get into this one, but started to pick up around 100 pages. Braithwaite uses the same short chapter structure as her first novel which certainly moves things along

Ok ok I’m feeling it!! So far it’s kind of reminding me of Rebecca but from Rebecca’s POV

Really beautiful writing. It’s just not grabbing me the way I hoped it would. I thought the ratio of supernatural/monster to real life would be a lot different, given the title. But so far it’s mainly about drama over first loves, in a nostalgic kind of way. Idk.

I think I know where this is going… but my history with Alex North makes me feel like I’m probably wrong 😂

If there’s a book about sister dynamics, you know I’m going to read it! Honestly there’s a lot of sportsball up front, but as it goes on it’s not as much in a TJR Carrie Soto fashion, which is a relief.

Ok I haven’t laughed this hard while reading a book probably since some of the comedian autobiographies I’ve done. And definitely never about aging! At this point I’d read anything you put in front of me about Rocky’s family.

If this one’s on your TBR definitely try the audiobook version, it has cool sound effects!

I’ve read all of Alex North’s stuff and I have to say this man knows how to create a MOOD

So I kind of made a big assumption from the title and cover and thought this book might heal the Twilight Girl in me but this is just not that and now I’m strapped into the ride 😂🫠

I’ve always wanted to write a character who’s a recreational monster hunter and I’m so glad this book has one so I can scratch that itch!

Absolutely brutal read, especially when knowing all the while that this posthumous publishing makes this memoir Virginia’s last act of advocacy. 💔

This might be the first time this has ever happened to me but what if I want the FMC and MMC to stay friends?? I’m having so much fun reading about their friendship I almost don’t want it to get ruined! 😂

I’m basically bullying myself into picking this one up and trudging on. And is it just me or is the pet gargoyle kind of the Jar Jar Binks of this story?

I keep going back and forth on this book every 50 pages or so 😅

I definitely get the hype

I’m so mad that the enemies to lovers is so botched in this. But the action has picked up! It’s feeling a little like Goblet of Fire but for souls stuck in purgatory.

Picked this up solely because Barbara Kingsolver raved about it. And I can see why! The charm factor is off the charts, so far at least. I’m surprised I haven’t seen this book mentioned more often

I’m finally picking up steam! The info dumps and dialogue have been stumbling points for me but I’m still definitely intrigued by the concept.

I had to restart this book twice to get this far - the problem is likely me, but I haven’t done fantasy in a minute and the world building keeps making me sleepy. Like I just pass out in bed then don’t remember what I even read. The info dumps just kill me. Hopefully I’m starting in earnest this time!
