Having trouble getting invested in this one, everyone just seems like a bad actor, so what outcome would be particularly satisfying? It’s going to take some twists to change that, so I’m hoping that’s the case!

Ok according to Goodreads SO many of my friends have read this book and rated it very highly… and absolutely no one has ever mentioned it to me IRL, nor have I seen any reviews circulating on social media. Soo I’m going to give it a whirl, but I hope you all didn’t trick me into reading a book about sports

Initially I expected this story to be a heavy, moody, potentially depressing dysfunctional family story but it is ANYTHING but. I don’t want it to end! Feels Barbara Kingsolver-esque. The character development is top notch.

Getting similar vibes as Lucy Foley’s Midnight Feast - creepy island that feels like its own character with questionable people acting oddly. I’m down!

The self-deprecating humor in this is absolutely top notch. “His love was more like a bodega, local and stocked with the essentials.” 😂 absolutely loving it! The GNATS in the church, it’s all so good!!

Ok do the audiobook format! There are musical numbers!

Maybe I’ll just forever be nostalgic for the Dear America series, but I love an epistolary format so, so much.

I don’t think I’ve described a book as a “page turner” in well over a year… but here we are, WAY past my bedtime, and I can’t be stopped. And it’s MOODY. Reminds me of Emma Cline’s most recent book.

This almost reads like a screenplay sometimes, a definite cinematic feel to the writing! Action packed too. I’m definitely invested and have no idea where this is going
