I am struggling with this story. I did not like the third book in the series and I am having difficulty relating to both the hero and the heroine in this book.

In this book I can't help to make a comparison to Jennifer Ashley's characters. Strong women who stand by and help their flawed men.
I would recommend starting with the the first book in this the series where Lady Jane is introduced.

I should be studying but NOoooo, I am indulging in a fiction novel. OMG, it's breathtaking. I can't stop turning the pages.

"...the greatest unhappiness a person can feel in life is unmet expectations." I like finding treasures like this within novels. It may not ring true for everyone but at least it's a quote worthy of ponder.

If prayers couldn't save her, God must suspect her lack of sincerity in her entreaties. I love it.

Here we go, again! Gothic romance, suspense and Autumn crispness is the perfect setting for this book. Artistic inspiration and imagination take possession of my senses.

Started today. It's delightful! A witty, sassy, free spirited, American Girl has captured the heart of an English aristocrat. My first book where the heroine has an opioid addiction, normally it's the Hero or a secondary character.

Boy! This book starts with a dark soliloquy. Darcie's thought. "DESTINY. Steppy had talked of destiny as though it were an old friend, or perhaps a mortal enemy with an ancient grudge. He always said that destiny brought all men the fate, a shroud and a bed in the cold hard ground." eerie!!!!! What a horrible way to think of Destiny. BTW, like the name Steppy for a stepfather.

I think I have a new author to add to my read list. So far, it is good. Had to make myself stop reading so I could get to work on time.

Victoria's mother reminds me of Rodmilla de Ghent, Danielle's stepmother from the movie Ever After...a Cinderella story. Rodmilla employed spies.

Slow pacing. I don't know why but I keep getting distracted. This book cover is beautiful. I can visualize the heroine wearing those colors.

Arcadia is a likeable character. I like Lord Sheridan. These are not cookie cutter characters.

Slow paced. However, I enjoy finding proverbial words in a story that speaks to a weary mind. "You embrace the struggle. You dwell with it until it resolves, and then you are able to move on."

I like Jane Goodger's books because her characters are always crossing the Atlantic Ocean. One American and one European. This book here reminds of the movie, My Fair Lady.

Lisa wrote a medical scene like she does in all her HR novels. This is my pet peeves with her books.
