Having a tough time getting into this one.

So far there's a lot of talking and planning. I've seen some reviews mentioning unhappiness with the therapy speak and the construct around how characters are pushed towards growth. In some ways I see this book as a reflection of where we're at in society now. We may not be fighting fused or an 'evil' shard god, but the world is pretty filled with trauma. People could use some therapy.

I haven't read as much this year as I have in years past. It's been more challenging to get into the mental space for reading. I have a few weeks off over Christmas this year, so my plan is to take on Sanderson's Oathbringer and perhaps read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.

Likely won't finish this book. Not grabbing me.

I read a good number of books last year, though at least 25% of that total were re-reads. I got on a nostalgia kick and savoured some treasured stories.

I'm really excited about Tad Williams new releases in the Osten Ard universe in 2017 and I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see Jim Butcher release Peace Talks.

Hopefully, I'll discover some new authors as well.

Interesting premise. Not sold on the writing style. The characters are weak and one dimensional. I might finish the book, but likely won't read the sequels unless the story dramatically improves.
