Solid account from another Canadian of adult faith and being and meaning for the secular and religious . Many references to Taylor and Macintyre, Aristotle and Aquinas, various religions and religious thought.

A great writer. I am happy this one has been translated. It is rare to find a neuroscientist who permits such eclectic research. His speculative thought holds certain wisdom. Highly recommended.

This is a surprisingly well researched and intuitive account on a topic that seems so specific and singular. I am learning much from this book!

Suburb book. Each chapter hones in on a specific theme (waking, dreaming, imagining, sleeping, dying, being. among a few others) and lays out a very lucid and informative take on the neurophenomenology (his term) of these states of consciousness. When diving deep into the neurology of these states he goes very deep, using big words (my term) while managing to explain it all to the lay-crowd.

Surprisingly easy read. von Hartmann first published this book in 1868 years before Freud/Jung expanded upon the unconscious. He attempts to reconcile German idealism (Schopenhauer's Will...) with the natural sciences. Some of the insights are great (esp. on animal instincts). This will be a long slog, but von Hartmann writes in readable prose...I could have been fooled that it was written a few years ago.

Spendid revisit. Chapter "Among Thieves" is Hesse's best writing up to this point (in chronological order). I am rereading each book again (in chronological order) while following along in a recent biography.

Perfect companion for trekking through Hesse’s collection. Start reading at any point in this one. Greatest biography I’ve read. This, and Fred Rogers.

I have been re-reading all of Hesse’s books as I follow along in Gunnar Dekkar’s recently written biography. Biography is stellar. This book is okay. All of Hesse’s early writing is that of the wandering artist in the world + his doppelgänger. I have been wandering away from Technology because of these readings and even began writing and painting (virtually, mind you).

Diving into the pre/history of the idea of UBI. Great roundup of original ideas from Paine to Spence.

Also using this progress notebook as a way to collect my thoughts on books to Italy for later writing. Pardon the excess in your feed.
