Doing a “dramatic reading” for everyone this year because Frank has never read it.

It is possible I will regret this.

I think I am reading this against my better judgement. (I loved The Rose Code; but I am sometimes wary of Russia-oriented things because they need to be Done Correctly.)

We are headed to the land of Revolutionary War history (Boston) so JP selected this as our next family read.

After a very interesting first part that took its time, it started rushing through a lot of developments in a way that felt sloppy. I flipped ahead to get a sense of where it was going and I realized that the author had these bookend events (Mayflower pilgrims landing and King Phillips War) in mind and didn’t out much into the in between.

Going to Massachusetts in June; gotta do some reading.

I gave a very dramatic reading of the chapter on Napoleon last night!

I’m starting to grow tired of the alluring pull of the opera singer….

We’ve made it through the Reformation. Frankly I’m surprised JP continues to go along with this as these middle chapters on early modern things are both convoluted and dull. He was very engaged with the ancient and medieval sections.

Occasionally I make sure to interject that women and non-white people existed and remind him that this was written in the 1920s.

But we march forward!

I am enjoying this book a lot - but that means I am nit getting enough sleep!

I read this at least 2 times as a teen, and I have managed to convince JP to let this be our current family read.

Back on the currently reading list — this time as a physical book.

I think I am about 25% through and the story is very good so far, but what makes this an amazing experience is the narration by Meryl Streep. OMG.

I am listening to the audiobook on my new commute and it is a great listen so far!

This book is positively delightful and a perfect palate cleanser after My Murder.

One quibble: The sheltered 20-something Russian pianist needs to learn to play rock/pop on the piano and has not heard of any, and when he googles, he can’t find any great rock and roll songs with a piano at the center and Billy Joel and Elton John would like to have a Word.

I am not sure that I will finish this. It is so like Matrix in its style and interiority (in a good way - Matrix was amazing), but as I travel through the wilderness with this girl/young woman I know that there can be only so many possible endings for her, and I'm not sure if I want to go all the way to the end.

This book is very, very interesting so far.

He said that he “wasn’t really into it” and I am heartbroken.

Reading this to JP. I do so hope he likes it.

Look, “road” vs “rode” is basic editorial stuff people.

I can already tell that this is something of a rush job/going through the motions (and lacked a proofreader at the end) but I’m going to read it anyway.
