So far it feels like I’m reading the beginning of Under Siege with Cats in Space. Not saying that’s a bad thing… just gotta get my head in that place.

DNFing. I don’t enjoy a rape plot and this one isn’t even believable.

After Dreamsnake, I’m wondering if this one could have just started on Chapter 3…

“Jet age” seems kind of dated for 1975, at 25 years in… but, hey, I guess we’re still in it, even if it’s a decidedly different version now.

This is really not good. How do you make a main character so boring? I’m about to start skimming. Hopefully he interacts with another sentient being soon so that he can think about something other than his supply of crystal wash.

Even Jason doesn’t go on about crystal wash this much…🙄

First time I ever appreciated “the story so far.” Also, now I remember why I put this off. The first time I heard that, my brain replaced “story” with “road” and I had Supernatural flashbacks. Hmmm. Curious….

It’s a bit obvious who the big baddie is which is a bit disappointing. Especially since no one else has mentioned it either. I don’t know. The obliviousness seems slightly OOC.

This is increasingly unenjoyable. The MC is showing no character growth. Just “sincere” remorse, followed by repetition of the same behavior. Also, he’s not funny.

I’ll stop for now but I think I might pick it up again when I’m procrastinating. It’s easy to put down and requires no brain power. However, it is definitely not how I want to spend legitimate free time.

I need to stop listening to this. I need to put it away and forget about it until book three is out so that I can just binge the whole series in one go.

I have been listening to this book for more than five hours straight…. I was just gonna listen a bit before bed and now it’s 5:42 am…. I only stopped because my phone battery died…. I guess it’s bedtime now but this book is so good and so not what I expected.

Infodumping is bad. Recap infodumping is worse. It’s thin padding. Worse than filler. You know what would be better? Be confident that your books are so good that every time a new one comes out, your fans reread previous books in anticipation. Or assume that a new reader is bingeing the series and cater to that. Or, just give enough hints so that we know the info is there in earlier books. Make us work for it.

I want an ebook so that I can search for “simple” and “pure”

This is incredibly listenable except for the objectification... It wouldn’t be an issue if there weren’t so many adjectives and similes. They are just such a chore to get through.

Also, there are no female wfs, or wbs iirc. Disappointing, but it at least there’s hope for humanity if womankind inherits the earth...

But on further thought, in this case I think I probably heard this before when I fell asleep listening to the audiobook and it was maybe incorporated into my dream, so not so exciting after all, totally reasonable explanation, sorry to bother you 😭
