I don't know how much more word vomit I can stand. Every character is GORGEOUS AND PERFECT AND THE MOST SPECIAL THING TO EVER EXIST.

Not sure if I can finish this book. I dropped off for like six months and came back to it and I couldn't care less about most of the characters anymore as they all seem to blob together and the driving narrative this time is so weak and boring.

60 chapters in and I'm getting tired of so many similes, so much dawdling with seemingly no direction in plot. The character arcs are fairly well done but the fact that I'm writing this while literally listening to it isn't promising.

As much as I've come to like parts of Nesta & understand her self-hatred & root for her, the lengths the series has gone to make her Special just feels ludicrous to me. The literal finger-pointing thing is so hilariously dumb & cringy yet it's treated like this Epic Thing we're all supposed to ooh & ahh at.

The series can lean 2 hard on evryone being Special & it feels so ridiculous at times.

OH. MY. ****ING. GOD. Why is everyone so infuriating! Remus is a well-meaning idiot who never demands a damn answer. Sebastian is an abusive, controlling jerk who we're TOLD is good but I can't stand him, and everyone withholds any information that might INCH the plot forward!

I'm not sure if I can hang on much longer; this series' promise is going down the drain.

What is this infodump of supernatural gobbledygook; rather than deepen the world-building, this hit like a dead stop after going 100mph (comparatively).

Ironic that there's the line, "If I'm boring you, we can take a break,"

Remus is a very sympathetic and in some ways relatable character but his passivity is starting to wear on my nerves. I've lived that passively, being that worried of "rocking the boat" in any social situation and I'm having to fight the urge to LEAP OUTTA MY CHAIR IN FRUSTRATION. Holding out hope the trauma he's survived is the major cause of or exasperated this behavior & he can gain confidense.

I'm struggling between the things I'm enjoying--the mystery, the city itself, some of the side characters-- & the things that are starting to drive me up a wall--Esta is hovering dangerously close to Faux Action Girl, Hart is flat yet pompous, & I don't really care about any of the other "main-ish" players. The romance is normally my jam but I can hardly stand these 2 so it's more eye-rolling than anything.

I came for the smut; I stayed for the story. Dang, there is some jaw-droppingly gorgeous prose here. I'm even invested in finding out what happens with the supernatural war. Who'd 'a guessed!

Starting chapter 2 and my engagement is waning. I'm interested enough in the basic setup but high fantasy is a hard sell and the abundance of places and terms I don't yet understand all at once is proving to be an obstacle course for my enjoyment.

Malec fanfiction has more of my attention at the moment than the canon story. Make of that what you will.

If I roll my eyes any harder at Clary's brain-dead dialogue they may just tumble right out of my skull in a desperate bid for freedom...

I'm hanging in there because the plot is sort of interesting and occasionally I like the characters, but DEAR. GOD. Some of the scenes are written so clumsily it feels like a 14-yr-old's first fanfic (and no, the irony is not lost on me there). No teenager speaks the way these guys do either. Not even the pretentious, well-read ones.
