I'm reading this because of the chapter on Hawaiian Psychology by William Rezentes

Brutal and compelling at the same time. Makes sobering reading, and is engendering self-reflection in this reader.

This is a classic, even though I'm still pretty much at the start. I did undergrad Psychology, and I wish I head read this 30 years ago. Then again, I'd have like to have read it every 10 years or so, to remind myself of a way of framing life. Powerful.

It's amazing. A remarkable achievement of insight, advocacy, courage, scholarship, and compassion. Now for Part 2 :)

Unexpected and v welcome synthesis of many topics I've previously studies - woven together very well and interleaved with real-world military challenges. It takes a tremendous amount of courage and skill to follow through a risky strategy, and it's impressive to take on board the high stakes and entrenched behaviours involved.

Starts well, perhaps a little less relevant in the middle, but remarkable insight shared re regarding five "shadow casting monsters" which will be familiar to many people

I'm with Dan on this - I agree that we are irrational and that our journey through life should be based on this assumption; the challenge is, how best to learn to life our life accordingly? Probably 4.5 stars really - it's an enjoyable read :)

In twenty five years of study and personal development, this is the powerful and resonant work I am grateful to have lost learned from! Powerful enough to make the ticking clock seem crystal clear. Amazing scholarship and insight. I can't recommend Brene's work enough :-D

I finished it in the last couple of days, and have immediately started my second reading.

I am *so* glad that Brené includes observations about Men - as I became concerned that many of the lessons are also applicable for us. The specific sections are deeply moving.
