I feel that it’s v important to share that one of Hector’s horses is named Sparkle in this version of the Iliad

Ok this book is incredibly charming and I’m kind of mad at myself for not reading it earlier, but glad that I’m reading it now.

So I don't know where I got the idea that this was about an Iranian poetess, because it is actually about a girl traveling the Silk Road from China to Europe. But it is still super long historical fiction! If only I had any memory of having requested this from the library.

This book is hilarious, and I am very glad I finally got around to starting it, but the author's definition of 'breakup' is ridiculously broad

This book is going to kill me

I am trying really hard to appreciate this chapter on Serena Williams, but it is difficult when the author keeps making stupid mistakes like repeatedly referring to Maria Sharapova as "Anna Sharapova". I mean, this is so basic! Don't you have an editor!?

My thoughts thus far include: 1. I am v put out that a goddess did not appear to me when I turned 15 to tell me which boys liked me and give me a magic cat and necklace. I mean, I know I'm allergic to cats. But surely a *magic* cat wouldn't have dander, right?
2. Teen-me wrote terrible Tortall fiction about...Delia of Eldorne!
3. Teen-me had book crushes on George, Jonathan and...Alex!

I have changed my mind. Only one boy is unreasonably stupid.

These boys are really just unreasonably dumb. Is this really going to go on for 500 pages?

The writing style of this biography is really fun, I'm enjoying it a lot. Also, the Bronte father is just...*head shake*

I looked up the author on Goodreads and some of his books are British history (expected) but others are a teen series called Popular that got a one word review of "No" from one illustrious FYADCer. I have so many questions. Is his scholarship BS? The book has so many footnotes! Don't tell me footnotes aren't the measure of legitimacy! Why did this guy use the same name for history and the teen series? Who is he?

I know I'm probably being unfair, but I cannot get over what a stupid name/nickname Mustang is
