This may become a DNF. I hate domineering bullies. I hate even more, women who get all weak kneed for them because they’re good looking. She’s already stopped fighting because she’d rather not get hurt. Instead she just falls asleep in his arms. So much for all her strength and training.

There are so many things wrong with this book. The plot is motivated completely by a lack of communication. Jade is forced into a marriage is so that her new husband can teach her the ropes of the society she now lives in. Instead, he’s constantly tricking her and manipulating her. He’s a constant asshole, and she is so ruled by her sex drive that she thinks it’s sexy. It’s dysfunctional on so many levels.

“I am Drega, high healer of the Sarkarnii Bask, leader of the Scaled Battalion and lord of the Sky Sea, and I am at your service, little jewel.”

So stupid… “. No, I don’t want to be your bride!” Then the very next paragraph they’re kissing so passionately that he draws blood. 🩸

This is just a knock-off of Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series published in the early 2000’s with a little of Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels thrown in. Its drawing on a lot of good tradition, but it needs some originality.

When an author attempts to write a sci-fi/alien romance, they really should do some research into space. Particularly annoying in this book is the confusion between a solar system and a galaxy. Shame.

Humanity is so weird. If we’re not laughing, we’re crying, or we’re running for our lives from the monsters trying to eat us; and they didn’t even have to be real monsters they can just be the ones we make up in our heads.

Pretty profound for a six-year-old, even if he is the antichrist .

This book is pretty adorable…

That’s pretty profound.

Wait a minute... why is Duffy the one apologizing right now. All of this drama was Emery's fault. Duffy never lied, or did anything other than try to act like a professional. It's Emery who's the shallow ass hat who purposefully doesn't look at his hookup's faces so that he doesn't have to remember them. It's Emery who doesn't have any respect for anyone who isn't flaming. He's been a complete jerk this entire time.

I’m finding this book both stressful and flat… not because it does a great job of invoking the early days of quarantine; but because it reminds me of all the false hysteria created by people who had no information but decided they were terrified anyway. The characters are the worst kinds of self-indulgent drama-lamas.

Casey is almost too stupid to live. Talk about a limp rag. Where is the rage? Where is the defiance? No human is going to take that kind of kidnapping lying down, no matter how good the sex is.

Also, this is why we don’t sleep with random strangers…

And Argo… what a heavy handed asshat. If I were Casey, He’d be getting a knee to the balls every time he got close enough.

So… Something I’ve wondered about while reading a lot of these alien romances… When you get an inner ear translator it’s supposedly permanent, so, how do you handle earwax?

In the last book I started to have mixed feelings about the way the people in the Dive Bar interact with each other. They can be really cruel sometimes. In this book it gets even worse. Nobody has any respect for Eric at all and when he starting to develop feelings for the new woman and child in his life, they pretty much gaslight him into thinking that it’s a bad idea and not something he is worthy of.
