Really weird 2nd person narration style. Hard to follow if you're not paying attention. Pretty prose.

Omg he's a preoccupied kid and crazy adult. The anxiety is bred into him even though his childhood is perfect.

Bought this at an airport because it sounded alright. First chapter in, the main character is a nutter. Ugh. I cant believe i paid 20 for this.

Just finished ch 1. Omg. Just continues on and on..the overexplanations, the unbelievable political schemes, the rambling. And somehow damen is stupid again and Laurent keeps getting weaker. Despite begrudgingly finishing book 2, i thought i was going to try to finish the series. But idk..i might have to dnf this. The first book is by far the best quality writing.

I don't like the audiobook reader. His voice and affect remove the listener from the story. He also struggles to pronounce French-ish names

I read the first chapters. Not sure if I'll continue. Whereas the cringe humor in the first book was due to the vampire's inhumanity compared to the mortal werewolf, in this book they're just dumbed down in a way that's not imaginable. Casimir is straight up stupid around Julian, like Patrick Star level. Julian is too nice, innocent, naive. No 31 year old is like this. The tropes/memes have gone too far.

This is really poor so far. It took the weaknesses of the first book and multiplied them. Still not enough background info for the reader, and when there is any, it's summarized via a tell not show method. The main character still has grown since accepting his kinghood. He was supposed to be a 25 year old man in the first book, but in both books he acts like a fifteen year old kid.

Omg this woman whines and whines. What a wimp. I'll try to keep reading bc the premise sounded promising. But im not sure. It reads like a hallmark movie.

She needs to stop writing things as "it is definitely not this" when obviously "this" is exactly what she means.
Pg 362 "The darkness makes a horrible sound that is not a scream but that is the closest word Zachary has for the screeching terror in his head and around it".
Hellooooo? "Screeching terror". That's the literal definition of a scream.

Very mesmerising prose.
Except I'm tired of all this "something is nothing and nothing is everything that is does not appear to be" crap.

Honestly thinking she should have written the "sweet sorrows" short fiction collection separately.

Will have to see how it develops but she labels the "starless sea" as being both the water-body, and the library-repository next to it.

The book is very pretty so far. Things that bother me: gross large words like "incongruousness". Also this kid is a master's student but the description of his work and school life sound like undergrad.

This book is complex in emotions and facts, making it take a while to get through. Good though.

I have never seen a movie or TV show that matches the book as much as this one does. I'm glad I saw the tv show first though because I'm not sure I would have followed the plot and all the character introductions if I had only been exposed to the book.

Quite entertaining.
