A fascinating book on the life of VG and the art of his time. Looking up artists mentioned is proving to be an education in impressionism, symbolism, cloisonism, pointilism, +. Records and letters kept by VG to and from family members, esp Theo, provide an almost daily account of the artist's life. Mostly exposition, and that a rendering of his thinking, attitudes toward art and artists; readers live in VG's mind.

Notable in structure, bringing the reader closer to the solution person/entity by p/e. It’s compelling to hear Amanda’s voice all the way through. Interesting mirror image of Lizzie and Amanda’s backgrounds: fathers, mothers, best friends; lying vs delusion; love, marriage, know ability.

Had to give up on this one even though the first 60 pages was amazing in content and style. Chapter one is about cave exploration; Chapter two about dark matter. Physics does not come easily for me, but I made some headway here. Cave exploration, and really, the underland itself, is just too dark for me.

This is a fascinating book and beautifully written. I read the first chapter on cave exploration and most of the second on dark matter/black holes. What was once above my capability of understanding became a little clearer. But the book as a whole, with its focus on underworld exploration, is a bit dark for me. Had to give it up.

Read the first 60 pages before coming up for air--that's how beautifully written this book is. But I doubt I can read on because the subject matter is too frightening. Cave exploring in absolute darkness where horizontal movement is through openings of shoulder width and ledges are slim and waterfalls deep. The prose is brilliant.

Listening to this on audible for motivation around the house, and it's serving its purpose. I don't have to will myself to tackle the dirty dishes because they're not going anywhere, they just dive into the soapy water of a clean sink and fall into the dishwasher. The book is a tad repetitive, but I'm encouraged by the result.

This book has a grand idea that I aim to embrace, but I have to say, like all self-help/instructional books, this one oozes the fat of repetition at the seams of every margin. I have to believe that editors encourage this.

Still oozing. Too many references to what will be covered later. The topic of creating an index should come first....or at least a summary of the book.

Had to give up on The Road to Unfreedom because it's too depressing.
