William used to be a terrifying character, but with every page I understand his fears and insecurities. Though he has societal power and authority, he will always be in the power of others so long as he remains concerned with image. It would be frightening if he overcame that barrier and retained the same behaviors.

I am loving the time jumps. Watching the small growth of the characters is both realistic and tasteful. Excited to see how Richard develops.

The world can be such a good and beautiful place.

Yeah pausing mid-battle

I cannot deny the nuance of the second trilogy’s politics and moral discussions, yet I remain unmoved by the last book and a half… Perhaps the excitement of the story has faded for me, the characters no longer refreshing and the story becoming too large. I can see a way where it could continue to captivate me, but Pierce Brown seems wrapped up in every single moving part.

I love Eleanor’s thoughts and perspective. Jackson does a wonderful job with characterization, character relationships, and creating a foreboding feeling. Chapter 4 was a thrilling change of pace. It is refreshing to read about unpredictable ghosts who may be more tangible than other depictions. Side note- Eleanor and Theodora read like lovers to me.

This is a great book to end my reading slump!
