Griff is 30% done with A Discovery of Witches (All Souls, #1)
Found this Buffy-esque tale about vampires & witches on my Kindle unread from Aug 2012 so dipped in...
...to a world filled with that bloody awful Sex & the City vibe where the author babbles on about unfeasibly accomplished "people", their hair, clothes, yoga sessions, furniture, meals, wine tasting, olfactory abilities & every possible lame stereotype in between. The blurb said it was a "sparkling" debut... #bollux

Free on Kindle Unlimited. Perfect for anyone who read & loved Georgette Heyer when they were 13 (but without the antiquated language).

Another freebie from Kindle. 60% in and the only thing a reader can say at this point is that the so-called forensic accountant is as thick as mince.

This has to be the most infuriating book ever. A great idea wrecked by the author's ridiculous characterisation of a bloke in his 60s as too feeble to lift a small carry-on suitcase up the stairs in his hone. He 'staggers' & 'totters' and fumbles and trembles throughout the book (I'm on Chapter 6). I guess Dixon was aiming for pathos but just ended up with pathetic. Ugh.

In this world, there's a country called Fatrasta.
Fat Rasta. It's seriously off-putting. 😬

It starts with a hysterically gabbled refresh of the story-so-far, moves onto a mention of a "self-defence session for female-identifying freshers" (tick), before you find yourself slapped in the face with unnecessary product placement. Depressing.

Griff is 50% done with The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between the US and Xi Jinping's China
Written during the Biden presidency but so full of warnings for the current Trump administration that it should be made compulsory for Hegseth, Vance et al.

This book is so dull. Cynical & dull. The dialogue is boring & unrealistic. The characters are vacuous. The descriptions of everything (but particularly what they ate) are so tedious, he must have been paid by the word. It's an exercise in tedium. Wish Hurricane Leo had killed the whole witless nonsense off. It's an airport novel for the Covid age. Just say no.
