Lol, dass sich dieses Kapitel mit Hayek's Bastards deckt, hätte ich auch nicht erwartet 😂 schön, dass das hier irgendwie der Roman zu meinem Arbeitsleseclub ist.

dass ein buch über die pest im anhang ne kekulé kolumne hat, ist auch ein sehr genaues zeichen seiner zeit (2019). aber soweit bin ich noch gar nicht (bzw denke ich mal, dass diese eh nur in der ZEIT ausgabe drin ist und nicht im allgemeinen hörbuch)

Steinbeck's grasp on language and the themes within the story is truly incredible.

Finde die mittelalterlichen Passagen nicht so dolle, aber die "Jetztzeit" Recht interessant in Anbetracht der Coronazeit. Irgendwie spannend, dass ich jetzt doch schon einige Quarantäne/Pest Bücher aus 2019 gelesen habe. Die wären 2020/21 sicherlich nicht erschienen 😬

Nachdem mich meine ganzen Sachbücher etwas gestresst und deprimiert haben, gehe ich jetzt mal auf meinen ZEIT Wissenschaftsthrillerschuber los. Von Thriller ist hier bis jetzt noch nicht so viel zu spüren, aber vielleicht ist das auch dem Lesen in einer Zeit, wo es COVID gibt, geschuldet...

These last 80 pages of the book have been my favorite so far - I just wish that the first 330 pages had been less granular and woven (hah!) the two "timelines" closer together.

Much better interpretation of tech sabotage than Dekeyser's Freud theories 🤷🏼‍♀️ (I find it very satisfying when books are in dialogue with one another in this way)

Picking up a book and realizing within the first two stories that this will be one of your favorites of the year and another entry in the canon of books that tick all boxes that interest you will forever remain one of the greatest joys in the world. I'm reminded of Lighthousekeeping and Der Inselmann just on account of how deeply it feels like it was written for me :')

It takes some time to get going but maaaan. Tillie Walden has been doing it again. (It feels sacrilegious to be reading this at the height of summer and not by a crackling fireplace as the wind howls outside)

i have a heat and sun headache from spending 2 hours on tuesday on a barge sailing down a river so i think it's prime time to give this a go

every decision made by characters so far feels like it should come with a little "this will have consequences" pop up.

anyway: really enjoying steinbeck's writing - the valley description in chapter one was breathtaking and he moves throughout the years with ease.

I think it's only fitting that this part of the Kristin-Rahel buddy read starts with an in-detail paragraph about pencils. Back to the roots <3
