Sheila Bitts is starting A Canticle for Leibowitz
There is a sense of motion as the character comes closer to another who is hiding in fear. The description of the loins of the outfit the approaching man had a somewhat queer yet compelling way of pulling one in to the scene. The witness views a flash of color as to make greeting the person enticing, yet, he is afraid.

My guess is that in Milton's time, 1608-1674, there wasn't as much need to explain the horror for it was there all around in war and slavery. I don't know why, but this book seems highly regarded, yet obscure. Maybe because of its religious references. If it's Milton talking about God and the angels, then one would think it be a safe place to have a literary analysis of the bible, especially w/ allusions to Homer.

Blank verse influenced by Homer's Odyssey & the Bible. Uriel's hanging out by the sun, Satan's going here & there, humans are suffering and sacrificed with no? gory details. Just pain & misery.

Then, there is Satan's famous line: "Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven." (1.263)

I see "reign" & "rein" as an intentional contradiction. Satan needed to be in charge, yet, he wanted to alleviate his suffering.

This page is the end of the novel.
I wanted the story to continue because it was not resolved as to the things the Trackers brought up and what their people were.

I can't help but think abandoning a son but killing a daughter because she had two would be a thing after a bloodlust revenge campaign to avenge a husband long ago. Perhaps the other daughter was really left with someone instead, but she told the surviving one she had killed her. Maybe that daughter is Mia's lineage? Would be neat!

Like Mia said, what's in it for us? The unresolved conflict is more than a
secret. The knowledge appears lost. Earlier, it was mentioned the stories may have been embellished.

3, Mia's emotional responses were refreshing. I wonder if this implies befriending the tracker.

4. I like the historical fiction; mostly the witchcraft trial.

5. Also, I like the math and science. Particularly about the old air in the ice. Odd. Uncanny. Interesting. Like Arte Johnson said, "Very Interesting."

1. Sort of wondering about George...

2. On Swearing
I have never heard a girl swear in front of her mother. Obedience implied reverence. My mother didn't swear either for the most part--many "fiddlesticks." Then there's the light-hearted, wise sister of mine who swears, but it's funny.

I'm at location 100 in my ebook.
I absolutely love the richness of Mrs. Saville's letters to Philip about her sea-worn brother brought back to her like a gift from God and perhaps restoring her waning faith after losing a child. His PTSD seemed to make him a messanger like from Acts as she clings to hope.
