I need him to crawl on more broken glass for what he did to her in the beginning and frankly, what he continues to do to her even after all the revelations. There's not enough suffering on his part and too much on hers! Although I'm not sure what I think about the story up to this point, I feel there are problematic elements that don't sit well with me.

What works for me: Interesting concept; Reincarnated star-crossed lovers! Magic! Double murder! Fate! A medieval manor! Gothic atmosphere with lightning, thunderstorms, and portraits of dead people!

An incredible sense of place. I have no trouble seeing the characters and their surroundings in my mind's eye.

What doesn't work for me: Lots of extra information about her work and the people she meets through work that could have been taken out because I don't care. Just give me the story of the couple and enough background information to establish their characters. The frequent use of brackets disrupts my reading flow.

Wow... he's terrible. I get that he has trust issues given his experience with women throughout his life but what he does when they meet for the first time is absolutely unacceptable. I'm not sure if he's redeemable and if so, how the writer is going to achieve it in a way that's authentic. At this point in the story, I like her and I think he doesn't deserve her.

Is there a point to this book in terms of how it fits into the series? Or was this just an attempt to stretch out the book count? I've spent 12.5 hours listening to it, so I sure hope it's the former.

Okay, so Delia's dead, but why am I sure that there's more to her and her death than meets the eye? Why do I still think she's one half of the Grand Deceiver?

By Jove! I think I've hit the nail on the head! "Do not trust VC." VC is Viscount Chenwith, which was Gerard's title before he became the Duke of Selburn. He rose from a low (lower?) position to one of the highest in the land. Did he have something to do with the deaths of his brother and Helen's parents?

Anyone else thinks that Gerard and Delia are the Grand Deceiver dyad? I've had this niggling feeling ever since he mentioned his first name.

OMG what is up with this subplot with Asahi, Manami, and Maebashi??! Just a bunch of people, ostensibly men, deciding what to do with a woman's life? Seriously??

Is she going to be this way the whole time? Afraid of everything? How am I to believe that she is a brave person when all I'm seeing so far is her jumping at every sound and shadow? It sounds to me that she's just never been in any unfamiliar places and situations before. I like Cooper though. He has a nice sense of humor and so far, he remains respectful of her wishes while battling his overwhelming desire for her.

Why do I keep wondering if Chase is Vanessa's Darcy? Is it possible that Vanessa is more of an Emma than an Elizabeth, missing the guy that's right under her nose the whole time?

But..." Sebastian seemed as astonished as Clary. He was staring at Magnus with his mouth slightly open, a blank look on his face. Finally he stammered, "Are you---Ragnor Fell? The warlock?"

Magnus took the pipe out of his mouth. "Well I'm certainly not Ragnor Fell the exotic dancer.

OMG Hahahahahah!

To open a Portal that went through to Alicante, I'd have to have them standing by on the other side expecting you. If I tried to send you through on my own, it would be in direct contravention of the Law, and I'm not willing to risk that for you, biscuit, no matter how much I might like you personally.

Magnus Bane is, hands down, the best character in The Mortal Instruments!

So so slow! I was zoning in and out as I listened to the audio recording on BBC Radio 4. But credits are due to the narrator, who as he read ended each word with a slight purring.

The fearsome urge to destroy or suppress books is an acknowledgement of their power, and not only that of august scientific, political, and philosophical texts but that of small quiet books of poetry and fiction as well, which nonetheless hold great capacity to change us,
