So far it's odd and I don't understand the choices of any of the characters really. I find it hard to believe the women are muscling through their periods rather than using makeshift tampons or attaching bands of fabric from the front to the back of the dress for pads to go onto. I also don't understand why they would resort to hair as thread instead of taking the thread out of the fabric?

Wishing I hadn't watched the film first so I didn't know what was going to happen.

Middle school me would have loved this book so much! And as an adult I'm still loving the warmth of the characters.

"His skin was the color of just-pressed olive oil," so green? Apart from that I'm really enjoying this book so far.
