I'm finally returning to this series but I have to say it's pretty inaccessible. I wanted to refresh my memory before I jumped back in but there are just no good succinct summaries that exist. So I am just going to read and be confused somewhat. But it doesn't matter since nothing gets fully explained anyway so who cares eh

I don't think I need to revisit the minutiae of Chromeria life this far into the book thank you.

I'm already concerned with how thick this book is. The other two needed to be trimmed down and this one is 650 pages. Oof. Hopefully stuff actually happens and its not mostly filler

Just as I get into the story she abruptly stops it. It's getting old

The timeline in this book makes no sense. 209: we are now nearly 30. 150s: she is 13 when her parents die. 145: it had been 10 years without her father.

So they're 23. But also nearly 30?

"I do not need to describe the throne room to you, Shizuka." Describes the throne room anyway.

While I enjoy the use of Sign Language the fact that the interpreter speaks as themselves and not the person signing is a big pet peeve. You aren't supposed to interpret like "she says this, she says that" you are supposed to interpret in the first person not the 3rd. You become the person speaking. It's.... bothersome to me. Otherwise I'm enjoying the book so far.

"you know I did save your life tonight. In some parts, that sort of thing engenders a certain amount of... Gratitude."
She stilled at the suggestion. He was suddenly concerned that she might take him up on what had been a bluff.

This is written like a man. He says this to her while holding onto her and she's asked him to let go. She's probably worried he's gonna rape her, not contemplating consentual sex in the wood

Woof. I can already tell the writing style is going to take some getting used to. "He sensed more than saw." Is an actual complete sentence in this book.

This book was a slog. I'll write up a review in the next couple days

A lot of retelling things I've already read

This entire book is an epilogue and it shows

The rules of how the Truth Stone works are too vague and many people avoid answering the question they're asked which seems to go against the nature of the stone

Oh good I love when all the action built up by the end of the last book comes to a shuddering halt at the beginning of the next book. Cool. Cool cool cool.

This is a pet peeve of mine for sure. Just as things start to get interesting the chapter ends and a new POV takes over. This book is spending way too much time on secondary characters. And even when it gets you interested in what's going on with them the book suddenly switches to a new one. It ruins any flow

Everytime I open this book to read about yet another side characters boring day I close it again and stare at the wall wondering what I'm doing with my limited free time.

So Thalen has won a game of Fantasy Chess after never having played a single game but he's read a couple books once, against someone who is a regular and skilled player. The same Thalen who is an amazing commander after having read a book. I'm trying very hard not to grind my teeth over this ridiculous Gary Sue of a character.

Everytime we get to Thalen's chapters my interest just starts to wane. It's just not interesting to me.

Thalen is by far the least interesting part of these books. starting on him was not a strong choice and I'm already wanting to put this down because I just don't enjoy reading about him

Third person present is an interesting choice to write in but I don't hate it

It is so annoyingly contrived how these two keep avoiding the fact that they are speaking of Bee. 800 page book. Let's see how long it takes these two to figure out this super obvious thing.

After the slow pace of the last book I'm finding it honestly very difficult to get into the continued drawn out nature of this book. I know I'm not far into it but... I dunno. My desire to continue right now is low. Maybe I'll take a break and read something else so that when I come back to it all the rehashing will actually be helpful instead of annoying and slow.
