This is a retelling of the nutcracker and im frocking living for the eloquence. I looked up books that have the same whimsical essence of the old Barbie movies and this one was perf to bring Christmas to Vietnam <3

I love innocent and whimsical children's books so I was really excited for this one since I thrifted a pretty hardcover. Maybe I couldn't lock in but 1. It was really short, 2. had absolutely flow in the plot and 3. could not even grasp any underlying morals if there were any

I... wtf was this ending lmao. There was a random side plot that turned preachy and strange. The ending got better to tie everything together but it was underwhelming. Maybe if I was more religious it wouldve had a better effect.

ok wow. climax went hard. yearning at its peak and the writing flew by. The pacing change was so crazy, it made the slow, boring start worth it. Right now we're back to slow but comforting, though there's still a substantial chunk of the story left, so I am curious how this will wrap up. In other words, I'm sat.

(it's been a solemn and slower read so far as she lays the groundwork and mystery, but her prose is so satisfyingly smooth there is just no room to even think about putting it down)

Been obsessed with the movie vibes so I had to give it a read but the book is not so fairytale good vibes. It feels like a diary that shifts through all the characters and they’re a lot nastier and honest and real than I expected them to be. Still, the book has been drifting in limbo for 200 pages and only now is it starting to pick up the main plot of the movie, when the detective comes to investigate the murder

blatantly ignoring all the old-time terms and jargon that im barely able to follow along hahah but when barely holding on boy is it a ride !! I like that every chapter is a new case.

Honestly it was a ride Pretty vivid ensemble of new yorkers trying to navigate messy lives with bad habits and even worse choices. I know the ending is supposed to be raw and unconventional but I'm a bit disappointed it's not a happier ending, after everything she's put me through

Romanticizing hogwarts+school life was so fun, felt like I was there. contrasted well with how the ending turned out. Cry break for accepting the end of childhood

Picking up from reading during Europe trip 2 years ago. It's odd and I'm not really clocking some of the plot but I've been relating to his journey and am curious to find out how it ends

not a huge non-fiction fan

Took a break for a little while because it got a little too intense but it’s a really raw book about people. I liked that it was thought provoking and created discomfort to simulate the evil we feel in ourselves sometimes. I feel like I lost momentum so the outcomes didn’t resonate as powerfully as I wanted them to… it definitely ended with subtlety.

it got really intense and exciting for a while but just plateaued. donna's so good with the anticlimaxes

I started this last night and hammered through it bc the physical aching was so addicting. PLSSS the miscommunication is so good

gritty, raw and gory. not super up my alley but it’s my brothers fav series. dialogue and illustrative writing effectively gave an escape into that medieval time, I read it all in a Scottish accent… wish there was a little bit of romance or a found family plot but I feel like they all still hate each other :’) brother, are u good?
