The story is mildly intriguing, the idea of cards holding magic that anyone can use is certainly a bit more unique than usual fare, however I'm having a similar problem to the one I had with the Knight and the Moth. The setting of Blunder feels small, confusing, and extremely unrealistic.

This is another case of "shoot the editor" There are so many syntax errors! The prose is littered with incorrect verb and preposition usage, and the sentences are so clunky it's often difficult to understand what Gong is even trying to say. The story itself is just getting more and more confusing and bizarre. What a mess!

I'm about 30% in, and I'm just shocked at how poorly written this is! There are so many incomplete sentences, incorrect words used (like 'gracious' instead of 'graceful'), missing commas, commas where there shouldn't be commas etc. The scenes are difficult to follow because of how poorly they flow, and the characters' actions are often non-sensical. The rave reviews on this book are also remarkably similar...

14 chapters in, and so far, I'm very disappointed. The prose is below average, even for YA romantasy, sadly, and the scenes don't flow well at all. And there is far too much swearing in an attempt to make the characters seem cool and badass. The biggest problem is that almost nothing has happened. The first vaguely interesting bit of plot is in ch14. I might force myself to the halfway mark as it's a book club read.

I have just started this, and I was so excited for it because the concept is so intriguing. Sadly, page 6 gives us this tortured sentence: “An invisible weight pushed down on her chest, She expected her future to feel heavier than a well-fed cat, but instead the piles of days teetering on top of her chest felt as light as a mountain made of mere husks, each hollowed out and spent before it began.” … oh no.

Enjoying it quite a bit so far, despite the low-ish ratings it's received.

The best so far is the complexity of the world we are introduced to. I also like Mira's job role as an idea for an MC; it places her really well to be an MC, if that makes sense, and it's a complex role. She's not just the leader of generic-oppressed-good-guys against soulless-ruling-upper-class. But let's see where this goes.

This was a lovely little story, with a small scope, but a main character you really root for and a plot that delivers.

Llistening to this on audio, I love Ikeda’s reading but after 5 hours the book just doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It also feels somewhat amateur, introducing characters with pages of backstory before we hardly see them do anything, then they do something contrary to how they were presented in the backstory. Also, each scene is written with too much jargon relating to the setting/activity, slowing things down.

Meet Luce - the most complacent, cowardly, and boring heroine you’ll probably ever read.

Now meet Daniel - supposed true love of Luce, the most irritating “hot boyfriend” cliche ever conceived in fiction. Really, when he enters scene I feel like my hand is searching for a volume knob to turn him off.

Best book so far plot-wise, although Ferius is getting to me. She can be so high and mighty at times, looking forward to seeing Kelley grow into a man now.

This is a good book to demonstrate tell versus show, but I don’t blame the author.

Halfway through and I get that the time jumps help to build mystery in certain areas, but I honestly can’t keep track of it all. Story is okay so far, but nothing special I think, will see how it all ends. I guess I find nothing worth the reading in the majority of characters except for Mitch and Sydney, and neither of them are driving the plot.

I got completely jnocked off course while reading this (at about 30%). I was really enjoying it and then life happened. I’m debating whether to start again as we’re introduced to quite a lot of characters right off the bat.

DNF at about 60%

A really odd book. The world building felt like a bad stage set, and the society was impossible to believe. The characters were unintelligent. Ploy was utterly bizarre and the book’s overall message was poorly executed.

Better off skipping this.

Also the "neh" thing. It sounds weird to me.

Trying to get back into this. I guess the problem I have with this trilogy is the style of the writing. The prose is rife with hyperbole and metaphors that are so poetic they actually fail to improve one's visualisation of a character/scene. I've already mentioned feeling weary of the bad language, it really doesn't do much for the book, and Mia is actually very hard to relate to in this.

I got so out of this book, but I will finish it in the next couple weeks. I have enjoyed the plot but find the characters' motives a bit hard to understand.

Wow! That was fantastic! I just couldn’t see where it was going, or I kept thinking I knew where it was going and then the plot would move in an unexpected direction. I tore through this in one day, and now I’m so excited to start book 2 😃

I absolutely adored the fairytale atmosphere and sheer magic of book 1. The love story in book 2 was better than any of the love stories throughout The Throne of Glass Chronicles. But Sarah J. Maas is for sure not the best writer out there. She doesn't have to be either. Her stories hit the spot in certain times of life. But she does kinda suck at world politics, lol. She should stick to plots on a smaller scale.

You know... the plot is really good. But I'm not a fan of the style. Some people will love it, some people will hate it. It's not that I mind the violence. I just find the tone pretentious beyond words. The fact that the author knows how pretentious he sounds and makes a joke of it doesn't make it any less pretentious imho. Only more so.

Starts with a bang, that's for sure. I couldn't stop reading last night even though I was exhausted. But having just finished Chapter 15 I have to say my distaste for sex scenes in books has reached an all time high. I HATE reading sex scenes.

Loving it!

Eh... Reading is starting to feel like a chore.
