It was nice to get a break in the running and fighting for a tiny bit of plots and character stuff, and now back to the horrors

It's an easy read but there are more fighty fights than I have the attention for, I miss the capers of the first book

The bear, of course, was not a bear, because there are no such things as bears anymore, only men. But it is easier to think of something wild and uncontrollable. Something with blubber and the ability to swim for miles through cold frigid water to an iceberg that it could ride safely until the next mass extinction.

This story is mostly about sisters

Just realized I was reading book 3 when I'd meant to read book 2 so setting this aside until I read that one

There is so much book in this book

For what is essentially really gruesome class horror, this is surprisingly funny

The writing is very descriptive! Florid, a critic might accuse. I think I'll enjoy it but need to start earlier in the day when my brain and eyes are fresher.

Was not expecting this to be straight women's fic but ok

I feel like most of Starling's books kind of languish and brood but this one feels like a race

I was just thinking about cannibalism yesterday because of that one paleolithic German site, and now here we are again! (But in a medieval-inspired setting)

(The writing is so immersive, that is the one thing that helps me through how deeply sad the story is.)

A harrowing vignette but we were spared the deeply disturbing details and for that I am grateful

Finally, 7 years after buying this and having it shipped internationally, I am now actually reading it!

Continually surprised by how similar the social hierarchy in Argentina is to the US. Like I shouldn't be, but this book makes the nonfic stuff I've feel more real somehow

Ok my brain still isn't in the best mood for fluff but it's going better now than a couple of weeks ago at least!
