I’m putting in my official whodunnit guess. I think that her married best friend Jack whom she’s been in love with since high school killed her momma! I have no evidence whatsover to back this up, I don’t even have a guess at a motive haha I just feel that would be the ultimate gag worthy reveal!

I know how I’m supposed to be feeling with the big blow up between Evan and Dalisay but the author really didn’t lay the ground work well enough. This argument behind big fight doesn’t actually make any sense for real. It’s a very out of nowhere subject that Dalisay just doesn’t have the evidence for. Even her example was singular and weeeeak

Oof this book is really somethin. I’m caught between thinking “maybe I’m just not vibing with her writing style” and “was this book written by ChatGPT?” Because I can usually find some singular thing a book does well. This one just kinda falls flat in every arena. But it’s like trying to be something? Weird.

This shit is crazy for real.

I’ve figured out my problem with this series. The mains are all incredibly one dimensional in a way that doesn’t make them real. Both too humble and naive. The writer is trying too hard to make them respectable. They aren’t in some sleepy town. They’re in New York. I’m pretty sure Lyndsay and her brother are first gen American. These folks are up against the NYPD and default to trusting them? Nah.

Okay this is ridiculous. 2 hours into this book and they are giving out way too much information to the police without their lawyer (who is related to them) present! They are aware the whole family are suspected and just went through this last book but they talkin freely without representation? Nah. I don’t buy it!

Rosie be pissin me off for real, I ain’t even gon hold you. I keep having to remind myself she’s only 15 but even still. She’s in very extreme circumstances and refuses to adjust the way she goes about things or learn from past mistakes and it’s VERY frustrating!!!!!!!!!

They just referred to the one implied Black friend (and one of two implied Black characters in the whole series, only having appeared in this third book) as sassy… great.

I was having a perfectly cute time with this series. Read the first two and immediately started the third. The series is white as hell and that’s fine because it hasn’t been absentmindedly ignorant. So why, WHY, has the author decided to dabble in diversity?! The first two notably Black characters have been introduced. One is a flakey friend with a toxic ex and the other is the mains evil step mother. bruh. BRUH.

Y’all, I’ve refrained from using the word “crazy”for like 6 or 7 seven years now. I’ve been using the word “wild” instead. But wild ain’t gonna cut it this time. I’m four hours into this audiobook and since about 15 minutes in I’ve said “This bitch is crazy,” at least twice per chapter.

Why this series got me in a chokehold y'all...

The only thing I don't like so far is that Kian seems to consistently have to apologize for calling out Hudson's very real privilege. And because Hudson sometimes verbally acknowledges it we're supposed to be cool with him using it in their deal/arrangement in the first place.

I'm a quarter way through and want to put in my official 'whodunnit' guess. I think Allison's husband Chris stole Billy (and the other kid who will get stolen later on based on the blurb) as a way to get Allison's attention. In her note she left she told him not to try to find her "again." She's implied she had miscarriages while with him. I think he knows she'll obsess over this and come back...
