It's interesting to see Kristina's boys grow up and their personalities develop. The last part of the trilogy is more involving for me, even though I struggled with the first 100 pages (just because I fell in a short reading slump).

Hardly understood the Gunnulf episode (2nd chapter of the 2nd book). Too much religious zealot stuff that is full of metaphors that are quite difficult to understand, so I was glad once it finished.

Repeating the same stuff on the same page! Why???

Interesting first part. I liked the first part that describes Kristin's childhood the best. Some of the secondary characters were more compelling than Kristin because of her stubbornness. Even though she's quite independent and strong-willed, I still couldn't believe how much she persisted in something that was obviously the wrong choice. I'd like to see if she was right or her family. Lavrans was wronged however.

I don't know what to think about Kristin anymore.

Quite interesting so far... Lots of nice descriptions of nature.

I've had a bit of a slowdown this month. I'm still enjoying reading this book, but I must say that now it's a bit repetitive. I do appreciate how the slowly built atmosphere becomes more heavy and uncertain, but the events are beginning to become quite similar. Still, I'm curious to see how it pays off—how will this carefully written story continue?

The short digression about the sultan's passion for mystery and crime novels is quite interesting. Abdul Hamid had a whole army of translators who would translate the newest books and also classics, but what I found curious is he didn't read the books personally - the sultan had a servant, known for nice tone of voice, who would read the books out loud for his majesty. Like some sort of pre-audio books.

Quite slow-paced, but enjoyable because of Pamuk's writing style and narration skills.

So captivating so far! I love how rich are the descriptions of the main island town. So much has happened already and it seems like I’ve read a whole book. Such a delightful read.

So close to the end of this epic tale...

Finished the first book of the trilogy. I've liked it so far. Simple, yet refreshing storytelling with many passages that describe the nature and sentiments very beautifully.
