Very slow progress. I started reading this on May 10th, and I started and finished TWO books since.

It's dark, and you can see a single tear run down someone's cheek and hit the pillow?

Ruth Ware, I like your books, but you keep pushing the limits of a reader's willingness to suspend disbelief.

Despite the many detailed descriptions of how dark the island is at night, Lyla somehow manages to see into the Water Villa -- TWICE -- to notice that the camera is gone (possibly)? Come on!

I liked the author mentioning one of her books being used as a fire starter.

This is slow going. I think that I was expecting more "discovering Paris" than details about aging and butchering meat. To be fair, I'm not very far into the book.

How do people manage to recall and write such detailed conversations? Not interviews but specific conversations with her husband -- or even the specific thoughts that she had while cleaning up after a dinner.

Admittedly, the descriptions of aging beef were a bit... But I am getting on with the reading because I am very curious about the various plats and Ann Mah's experience.

This book has that sentimental air that I find in Antoine Laurain's books, but Café Unfiltered is less whimsical than many of Laurain's books. I am ready to explore more of by Jean-Philippe Blondel's writing.

I am really enjoying these stories about the patrons and owner of a Parisian café in the slow reopening days after the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Blondel's writing amd Alison Anderson's translation hits the mark for me. Soft, subtle, interior monologues in a particular moment.

I have already requested another of this author's books from the library.

Something is in the well in the woods. Something enters your house, smelling musty and dank. Yes, girl, it's an angel. Yep ... It's an angel that's going to grant you a baby.

The print book has been in transit to my local library branch for a week, so as soon as I saw the audiobook on Hoopla, I clicked "Borrow".

YouTuber Willow Talks Books highly recommended this one, and I cannot wait for the madness to begin.

I love an epistolary novel, and this one is shaping up to be a lovely story. As a lover of written correspondence, this book strikes a chord with me.

This is the sort of book that I would stay up all night to finish -- if I didn't have to awake early tomorrow for blasted work!

"You may send a map of my new route to the mental ward at Charity Hospital."

During my brief tenure in the Crescent City, I worked a temporary job at Charity Hospital -- reviewing patient files for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement eligibility -- before I was unceremoniously sacked by the management consulting duds at Toilet & Douche.

I had forgotten how inappropriate this book is. Inappropriate but funny. Toole's writing manages to make me laugh when I feel that I shouldn't.

I have taken to arriving at the office one hour later than I am expected. Therefore, I am far more rested and refreshed when I do arrive, and I avoid that bleak first hour of the working day during which my still sluggish senses and body make every chore a penance.

While I am enjoying getting reacquainted with Ignatius J. Reilly, reading A Confederacy of Dunces on the heels of The Secret History feels incorrect.
