I just realized that I had read another of Kelsey James' novels, Secrets of Rose Briar Hall, which was a somewhat disappointing experience. Book books share detailed sex scenes that feel (to me) joltingly out of place in what is meant to be a gothic novel.

At the start, I found the narration a bit off, but I have settled in. The various storylines have promise. We shall see how it all develops.

Thanks to horrendous air quality, thunderstorms, and not feeling well, I am blasting through this book.

Normally, nonchronological, stream of consciousness autobiographies drive me bonkers, but somehow Sam Neill manages to escape my bias. There are several stories that had me tearing up.

I am loving the extra descriptions and scenarios King provides in the book, which are missing from the movie (which is still a damn masterpiece!).

The Shining is only my second Stephen King book, and Campbell Scott is the perfect narrator!

I am not as hooked as I hoped I would be.

You just knew that the annoying white folks weren't going to make it!
