Began reading The Night Stockers tonight. Triana is brilliant and Harding an extra treat. The concept for the plotline is impressively imaginary, character development delightfully with depth and the whole narrative a real joy to read. But then horror comedies should all be published with the talent of these two award winning writers providing the script. Can't believe I waited so long to read it!!!

The Divine Farce is a Buddy Read for this month, hosting club HGW . It's unlike any book I have read since joining Goodreads.It reminds me of philosophy. Well written fascinating short work. I am at 42% at the moment. What do you guys think so far?

I am impressed by AB's inventive imagination now that Oliver is on his mission to torture and kill the evil men and women around him who were involved in his complete destruction. The narrative is consistently well written and the torture sequences are dynamite. The revelation that the satan worshiping evil gang leader is evil beyond measure is shocking.

Read to nearly the halfway mark last night. AB has an amazing mastery with descriptive prose. His writing style is incisive,sharp, and articulate. I love how he makes the reader feel like they are a witness to the action and horror taking place. This point in the story takes the weak and emotionally shattered protagonist passed the Rubicon. Oliver is now dispensing remorseless vengeance upon the villains.

Started Yellow by AB rather late tonight, just felt like some articulate, extremely horrific vigilante justice. This one has been on my Unread Shelf too long. Looking forward to the read.

Tonight's stories included The Transformed Mouse and a short succinct work titled The Right Thing which would have warranted a personal Fan Letter from this reader if the legendary Jack Ketchum was still with us. The former prompted a poignant whimsical glimpse of this horror author. It is a children's story he penned mid-70's before he became a novelist. An updated version found a publisher 2003.

The story tonight was Cow With Lucky McKee and it was related to Ketchum's Dead River Trilogy, in this instance The Woman . Excellent story and tied in to the saga of the cannibal clan perfectly. Again, I enjoyed the additional story notes by the author. Ketchum is an incredible story teller.

I spent some time with this "historical horror story" tonight and at the halfway mark I have concluded that the author excelled at convincing the reader that Ilse Koch is devoid of any semblance of humanity. There are some creative imaginings of what may have transpired in her early youth.
But after the intro to this human monster, scant dialogue,character development, movement. Perversions are repetitious.

Tonight I read Winter Child and it was the most eerily creepy and of course well-written, story perhaps thus far It was a scary read and the words by the author were illuminating due to the story's relationship with his more famous horror novels the "Dead River" series..

Yes, I am not setting the world on fire reading this one in a single night. Ace is interesting to me. He has a brutally visceral writing style that is impact ful enough to motivate stopping for a breather after a chapter or two. That is not necessarily a bad thing dependent upon one's mindset. This work is grounded in fact, but the supportive storyline is born of the author's imagination, envisioning depravity.

Tonight's read was really impressive. I really enjoyed Group of Thirty because it was autobiographical. I was duly impressed by Polaroid . It was brilliant. This is truly an exceptional collection.

Just began reading this outstanding short story collection by Jack Ketchum. I loved the Intro by the legendary Ed Lee. Of the early stories I really liked Bully and Listen was also quite memorable. The book is an April Group Read Selection on Splatterpunk.

This chapter I just finished was extreme horror with bludgeon tools and intimidating sharp knives. Our savvy villain falls for Vicki's seduction gambit and Melvin acknowledges culpability in the death of Pollack. She is a decent actress and Melvin is ready to believe (an important factor in his dubious acceptance of her words of caring and attraction for him. What happens later is a shock I did not see coming.

Really entertaining read about nerve shattering horrors interlaced with Laymon's humor. I gotta say I am really enjoying this plotline. It is outrageous, sometimes original, but consistently intriguing. Please also see notes on Discussion Thread BR Splatterpunk.

Like Laymon's style and this selection really hits the spot with me! Suspense, chilling scenes, LOL moments amidst horrible situations. This outing permits the reader to enjoy a slower but satisfying pace with fewer alternating POVs. I like the main characters and the outlandish plot with its crazy-as-a-loon fiend at the helm. This Laymon title is a Buddy Read on Splatterpunk Book Club.

Genuinely enjoying this story of Laymon's. Likeable protagonist in Vicki..Nice pacing with the plotline. And I like the creepy mad scientist Melvin who has some extreme sexual fantasies tied to his playing with black magic to perform resurrection of his murder victims. I think.his creep quotient continues to increase.

The storyline starting out like gangbusters and introduces an especially repugnant and lethal murderer. The first explicit kill scene for a Laymon novel in my experience with his works to date was particularly clinical and chilling. First impressions of this outing with Laymon.is positive.

Reading this as Buddy Read on Splatterpunk. This Horror novel is riveting. I would highly recommend it. It has been an emotionally disturbing and visceral experience. An unforgettable novel is anticipated.

I enjoyed a recent escapade by Asher and his women <spoiler> the family went after a Reverend who had habitually molested Callie and the preacher's complicit wife. The family ("Reapers") are laying siege to a refuge for nuns next). </spoiler> I really enjoy the novel but it is l-o-n-g.

Plan to finish tonight. It is an imaginative blend of a fictional tale born of an old but true tragedy.

Incredibly the storyline and razor sharp extreme horror scenes get better as the book progresses. This is an explosive, addictive action yarn with.likable characters and despicable sociopaths to loathe. What else would you want in work of horror that feels like it is just what you felt like reading!

Going into the second quarter of Slashvivor! was an exciting surprise because the "plot thickened" and it morphed into a significantly more interesting storyline. And the extreme horror? Oh, yeah! I did not dislike the first quarter but it led me to make false assumptions. This is a Book Read for March 2026 Splatterpunk Horror Book Club. Please also refer to the Discussion Thread.
